yeah thats the one thing I like about xplane, the scenary is so well defined over fs2004 which looks blurey and indestinct.  FSx looks like it's going to combine that nice sharp scenary with all the good parts of fs2004  ;D

I should have a graphics upgrade by the time fsx comes out aswell.

Damn, was just about to post those.

My favorite by far was that Grumman boat-plane thing.  REFLECTIONS!!

I have just noticed one other thing [besides the self-shadows and sense of altittude].

Notice that there are no ugly 2D clouds lining the horizon [as you see in FS9]. And, just to make the critics think twice, there are no addons that can fix the ugly line of clouds in FS9. ;D

I'm not sure that removing the textures to those type of clouds in FS9 would even work. Chances are there would be an even-more-ugly object looming in the horizon of FS9.

What I'm trying to say is that M$ has made the right choice to remove such ugly clouds from the system altogether.

You can adjust you're weather settings in the display options.  I can't remember which setting does it, but you can have full 3D clouds to the horizon, but that usually brings my comp down a couple notches on the FPS scale. ;)

Something I really like is how the autogen buildings and trees are placed on the textures in a way that makes it look like they fit and are really supposed to be there, as opposed to the mumbo-jumbo way they are in FS.  It also looks like the mesh, or whatever defines the terrain elevation, looks very good, with all the little hills, and gullies in the third, fourth, and fifth screens. :)

you can have 100% 3d clouds if you set it in the display options.... still looks a bit funny though on scattered clouds at dusk though which It dosen't look like fsx is going to have a problem with.

I also notice that the earth is curved in fsx....
