From the MS site-

Additionally, Flight Simulator X will deliver for the first time structured game play with more than 55 missions to choose from which will test the skills of players of all levels.

I didn't really fly the missions in FS98, and I doubt i'll fly them in FSX either ::)

Some people will be pleased with this! ;)
I personally think it will be another "extra" for FSX. 8)

I thought it sounded neat, I keep looking at THIS pic and think of how cool it would be to be tasked with flying into the mountains and having to find some little camp up on a glacier, then land, pic the camp up or something, and head back.  I have done some of the FS9 flights, and they really aren't that impressive, at most they are just take-off here, then go land here.  So, I think this will be a welcome addition for all kinds of "mission" types, like Search & Rescue, or maybe you could fly the police helocopter they were showing while tracking a car on a highway or something.  Could be fun. :) ;)

I would love to actually be able to deliver cargo to places, whether it be in Alaska by Maule, or a relief mission by C-130. It's all very well pretending to do it, but if it actually completes a goal, it's a little more rewarding :P.

Possible missions could include:

SAR (Search and Rescue)/Patrol
Cargo delivery
Passenger flights
Troop transport
...Spy missions? :)

So there's still room for improvement in the 'Spying' field then :D

But it would be nice to have a log of all your flights in game... perhaps recieving some sort of reward for all your hard work!

I've been using plain old spreadsheets to log my flight time since FS5, and i'll continue to do so with FSX ;)

Just remember guys. Any missions will be based on the default aircraft. So dont expect huge amounts of varience.

If you like structured missions may I suggest SAR 4: Coastal Heros. The flight dynamics are much more forgiving than FS9, and there are only 3 helos, but it is a fun game.

And for those of you who take this seriously. Also remember this is a civilian simulator. Chances are very high there will be no weapons. ;) Of course our friend rimshot here was being sarcastic. Or at least he had better have been :D
