FS2002 and 2004 Add-ons?

Postby masmith » Sat Jan 07, 2006 4:30 pm

Will FS2002 and 2004 Add-ons be compatible with FSX?

For example...

Photo graphic scenery

Just Flight Lago Falcon and Tornado

Just Flight Concorde

Flight envroment

And the Rest...

Certainly Microsofts Q&A indicated most would hopefully be compatible. I suppose the new the product, the more likely it will be to work in FSX, but we'll have to wait and see. I expect payware developers will provide updates to some products too, just as they did for FS2002 products (remembering JF Photoscenery for the UK appeared towards the end of FS2002's life)...

All addons from previous FS versions will be completely incompatable with FSX due to the revolutionary advancements that it will contain.

Now now Woody, lets not confuse everyone just yet...
;D

From the Q&A...

Q: Will aircraft from FS2004 be compatible with “Flight Simulator X”?

A: Backward compatibly with existing 3rd party content is and has always been a priority for us, and we attempt to test as many add-ons as possible in order to provide the greatest level of compatibility.

ie, no repeat of the CFS3 problem...

I would expect some fs2004 aircraft would work fine, and some will probably have missing props, tires, hollow jet engines, etc. . . Similiar problems experienced between fs2k2 and 2k4. But I honestly don't have a clue. ;D

from what i'm reading from verious sources, i conclude that most later fs2004 addons *SHOULD* be compatible.

but don't expect FS2002 addons. they hardly even work on FS2004 unless you find a dual compatible or a diamond in the rough.

 ;D ;)

Well, Microsoft said they are testing as many addons as they can.
I just hope I can fly my Level-D 767 in FSX because Ive always thought it to be ahead of its age and too innovative for FS2004.  ;)

I know I can take all my FS9 payware scenery and throw it in the thrash. The companies will produce new versions that you will have to purchase!

Abacus Flight Deck 3 (orignally for FS2002, then upgraded for Fs2004)

Lago Manhattan Scenery. Definately will have to produce a newer model.

There goes a total of $78 bucks down the drain.

Doubtfull my AH-1Z Cobra will be compatible.

Sides new innovation means new products! We dealt with it when FS2004 came out now we will deal with it when FS2006 is released!

I think I can stand to be without FSX for about 6 months before I upgrade though! Once I see what difference the addons make to it! It is really what sold me on purchasing FS9. I think that is what M$ is banking on, releasing better technology for third party developers to play with.

Can everyone remember what it was like to see the first awesome addon aircraft for FS9. The kirk Olsen F-16, then the Dino F-14 Tomcat. That is what dragged me aboard! What will it take for FSX to win you over!
Its only in your mind, strong mind, strong soul and nobody can take that from you!

I don't get this - where does this info come from?

I would have thought that all GMax and FSDS2 aircraft will be OK as will all XML based scenery ie all the more recent stuff being created for FS2004. Obviously all the SCASM scenery (FSSC/Airport/EOD/Macro based) will not work but we have known about that for a very long time. But obviously existing textures won't take advantage of the new features like bump mapping that will be possible in the new version.

But hey I don't know any more than anyone else.

I am totally bemused by all this half-baked speculation in this area of the forum - but I guess it keeps a few people off the streets who might otherwise be out mugging old ladies and robbing liquor stores (no names mentioned... ;) )

I don't suppose you'll be updating yet Paul when it comes?

After looking at the specs, realizing that Vista will be out after I buy my laptop in September and that cards won't have Direct X10 - I think I'll have to skip FSX. :(

I dunno'....

What I've got now runs FS 2004 flat out with no problems, everything maxed....
...even on dial-up in Multiplayer...;D...!

So we'll have to wait and see.
I really wouldn't like to have to turn my settings down to suit FS X...
If it was the case, then I definitely would consider up-grading, whatever that involved... ;)...!

Cheers...!

Paul... 8)...!

P.S. Not sure about "Vista" tho'...that sounds expensive, like Windows XP Pro... :'(...!

It seems obvious to me that if people want to see vast improvements in a new version of any program they should not expect full compatability with 3rd party addons for previous versions. You can't have it both ways.
