The first thing I would try is to find fsx.cfg & delete it. Take a backup copy first if you're nervous. FSX should then create a new CFG if & when it starts up.
If this is successful you will have to reset your display settings

Since this is a case where it wont even startup, well, you already got your answer
A slow startup is attributed to 3rd party plugins (Like FSPassengers) and a good deal of addon scenery

Get a program called FSX Logbook Recovery v1.1 If my FSX won't load or is very slow to load . I use this program . Hit Analyze , then recover then backup . After doing this then FSZ will launch with no problem
