No Textures or VC on Downloads

Postby Sparkrite » Wed May 13, 2020 11:31 am

Hi all,
My apologies if this has been answered before or I posted in wrong forum.
I am new here but am quite used to FS but I've been away from it for a number of years.
I am now running FS Acceleration on a Win 10 machine and it runs very well.

My problem is I download a few complete planes, Bae146 and B722, for example and I drop
the unzipped folder, as per instructions, into FS/SimObjects/Airplanes/ and answer 'Yes' to all
the requesters when I boot up FS and usually the plane appears within the selection window in all its glory.
Sometimes it just appears without livery, but either way when I select it and go to fly it, VERY often it
appears without any textures/livery and no VC.

This has to be something I am doing wrongly as there are many positive comments on the model.
Is it a difference between 'Acceleration' and FS SP 1/2 ?
If the only way is to disable DirectX10, then this is to much of a frame hit.

Thanking you in advance.

HI

Welcome and sorry to hear of your problem.

Can you please give a specific example of an aircraft you are having trouble with.
This should not happen and there should be an easy solution. Just need to know the file.

Thanks :)

Hi Pete,
Thank you very much for taking the time to try and help.

Here is a link to one that causes the problem:-

I get about 30% that work ( without having to disable DX 10 ) and I cannot figure it out.

Cheers.

There is your answer. The aircraft from your link was created with the FS9 SDK. Although most FS9 aircraft will port over to FSX the textures will not display in DX10 Preview mode. You should look around for aircraft described as being FSX Native models. Unfortunately the only freeware examples of the BAe146 family I can find are all FS9 models.

It's easy enough to check if an aircraft will be fully compatible with FSX.

First of all, before downloading it read the file description carefully. If it's described as for FS9/FSX it will be an FS9 model.
Click on the Zip file preview link. If the main textures are in BMP format it will most likely be an FS9 model. Most FSX native aircraft will have two MDL files.

If you already downloaded it open the MDL file in a text editor like Notepad.
If you see MDL8MDLH in the first line it's an FS9 model
FSX native models will be MDLXMDLH

As for the lack of a VC not all 3rd party aircraft will have one.

That makes perfect sense, thank you very much for your reply.
