Installing add on aircraft in Steam

Postby jimm57 » Tue Apr 21, 2020 11:54 am

After about a 4 yr hiatus from FSX (went to the dark side and went Mac) I got the old PC up and running primarily to fly w FSX because I missed it. I bought a few nice add on aircraft and downloaded a ton from here, but cant find the correct path to install them. Please help! When I install to Sim Objects Aicraft folder they dont show up. I have the PMDG 747, Coronado C-182 and Aerosoft F16.

The default location should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\ unless you installed steam on another drive or different location.

Nope. That didnt work. Wouldnt let me install to sim objects/airplanes. It stopped at MS FSX, and installed the disc but the F16 doesnt show up in the list of AC. It installs off the disc so maybe the installer isnt reading right?

You should be pointing the installer to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX
or to a seperate folder and install them manually.

You could also have another problem if its an old disk using the safe disk system, Microsoft in their wisdom disabled secdrv.sys on W7 and totally removed it in W10. Just flight did a little tool to re-enable sec drv on w7 so that you could still install from your old disks unfortunately if you use windows 10 it will not work.
This explains it better.
