I have a Question.

I have a Question.

Postby evansmd1 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 4:59 pm

<<v <<v I am new here and really new to this side if FSX. My question is, has anyone heard of the EL Canadair CL-84??? This aircraft flew in the late 60's and then retired in 1974. It was very agile and had a decent top speed of over 500 km/h. Its operating range really sucked at around 550 km. the aircraft had no problem transitioning from hover to flight mode and back. it was able to lift about 4000 kgs. the most notable item on this aircraft was the fact that in hover mode, the pitch was controlled by 2 counter-rotating propellers. the propellers stopped and became aligned with the fuselage to reduce drag on the plane. I don't know how many were ever made. I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone who had built one for FSX???? I would really like to get one. That's as much as I know. I am finished babbling now so I hope all of you have great flights.
Thank you.
Mark.

Thanks for posting this. What an amazing aircraft. :o I'm surprised that I'd never heard of it before.
It would make an interesting project for FSX. After a quick search of this & other FS websites I found an early FS98 version but nothing since.

I found this video of the CL-84 taken during testing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGH2Lg_pg-k
Shame that it wasn't developed. Here's some more information on it. https://ingeniumcanada.org/aviation/collection-research/artifact-canadair-dynavert.php

PS. You might like to try this https://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=+XC-142&categoryId=.
The Vought Ryan XC-142 updated for FSX. It looks like a 4-engined development of the CL-84.

I'm not aware of any sim models for that aircraft, but it is quite an interesting Canadian aviation innovation.

They don't have it listed in their website, but the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba has one in their collection. It is just the fuselage, stripped of all componants, tucked in a back corner of their hanger. Great museum to visit if you have the chance, but hurry...the museum loses their lease on the current hanger very soon, and the Federal Government of Canada has not provided the funding that was promised to help build the new location that was promised.

I would love to see a Curtiss-Wright X-19 for FSX
