Editing PANEL folder deletes aircraft

Editing PANEL folder deletes aircraft

Postby greywolfe » Mon Dec 18, 2017 7:40 am

TO add Auto pilot to my PANEL I copied the existing file to Notepad - made the modifications and this modified file in place of the original file.
Now my aircraft does not show up in the options when loading FSX. Note that the aircraft is still listed in the sim objects options ?

Any ideas please

Sounds like you messed up the edit. Aircraft without a functional panel will not display on the Select Aircraft menu.
If you backed up* the original Panel.cfg file try replacing it & start again.

*Note: It's good practice to back up any FS files before editing them so you can replace them if anything goes wrong.

If you tell me which aircraft you're trying to modify, which instructions you're following & where I can download it I'll check it out for you.

Hi Hagar (you helped me twice before so I have faith & gratitude)

Hi Hagar (Thanks for your help again) - I've been messing around a bit and currently have this file path set up:-

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\HP-80 Victor\panel

In the panel folders I have my modified .cfg file (contents exploded below)

Hagar - I notice that the old file that worked has a file typ .CFG
But the modified replacement file type is a lower case .cfg

Is this critical perhaps ??

I tried your modified Panel.cfg & it works fine although the AP is a tad on the small side. I suspect your problem is with saving the edited file.
It MUST be named Panel.cfg to be recognised in FS (the case is not important).

I note that the HP Victor by Mr Ito that you're using is an FS9 model with no VC.
If this is for FSX I suggest that this version might be better. https://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=Handley_Page_Victor-1.zip&categoryId=&filename=Y
It's an FSX native model with a VC & autopilot so should need no modification.

You have FSX installed in 'C:\Program Files' folder. Windows will not allow you to CHANGE any file in that folder (ie:due to permissions). You should back, then move to desktop. Make edits. Then save to desktop (overwrite). Then move it back to where it belongs.

I do seem to have now saved the modified file but and the aircraft is visible now and loads ok but with no sign of the auto piolt anywhere. But I'm going to load te Victor link that you suggested as being FSX based it should be superior I think. Thanks for your time Hagar - the result is what I wanted - many thanks.

- I did the modifications in notebook and have eventually got the right file in the right place but the changes I required (i.e adding an auto pilot) still do not work. But Hagar" from this forum has given me a linkt to a better version of the aircraft I was working on and so now I will not need further help. Thanks for your time it's much appreciated.
