Dewoitine D-520 black gunsight

Hi all,

When I uploaded the Dewoitine D-520 a couple of years ago the gunsight was clear. As I had to do a new install after downgrading my PC from WinX to Win7 I noticed that it went black. Only the gunsight, not the VC itself. I haven't the slightest idea why. If anyone can repair it it would make me very happy. It happens with FSX and FSX Acceleration.

Regards, hertzie.

Is this the file? https://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=DewoitineD-520.zip&categoryId=

Is the problem with the VC or 2D panel or both?

Hi Hagar,

I think so (search my name: erik hertzberger). And it's the VC panel.

Thanks for your interest,

hertzie

PS: I wonder if it has something to do with the NET.framework updates, but maybe I'm totally wrong

I didn't realise that is you. Silly me!

Not sure I can help. The VC gunsight is same for me in FSX Gold + Acceleration on Windows 10.

I can't see any textures that would affect the gunsight transparency so assume it's defined in the MDL file.

Strange things in FSX.

I have seen that:

I use FSX (SE) in Win7, with DX10 enabled and DX10 Scenery fixer:

Gunsight OK but canopy and propeller not:

But in DX9 black gunsight and canopy and propeller OK.

Indeed, strange things happen in FSX !!

I also run FSX Acc on an old XP-PC and that gives the same results. If it should be something in the mdl.-file, why didn't it happen when I uploaded it on SimV in 2011? (see VC-thumbnails).

And when I load the plane to start flying, the VC starts with a clear gunsight and then only the gunsight turns black.

But as I don't know anything from designing and modelling, maybe someone who has can explain to me how a thing like a gunsight is designed in the mdl. ??

This might depend on the version of FSX you were using at the time. As this is an FS2004 model the gunsight would display correctly in FSX without SP2 (or Acceleration) installed.

IMO, if the gunsight is in the mdl, the easiest way is use this plane in DX10 mode and replace the glass texture of the VC and also the propeller.

The external textures of FS2004 models don't display in FSX DX10 Preview mode. I presume that the "DX10 Scenery fixer" you mention has something to do with them displaying for you. I doubt that most people will have that installed.

Yes, the DX10 fixer allows FS9 portovers to be used in DX10 mode and force interior shadows, but in this D520 the glass texture don't work.

Just for curiosity I installed this plane in P3DV4 and the gunsight is ok..., but the exterior model is not visible.

Thanks for thinking guys, much appreciated. I changed the panel bmp's to dds's, that ruins the 2d and the VC gets blank grey. I also tried to foddle around with the background colors setting of the VC, doesn't help either. The problem is that te gunsight is on the top of the $tdb-bitmap, but isn't visible in that bmp. It's not designed there, I can't find it. And I don't know if you can change things with background colors.

I've tweaked a lot of FS9 aircraft to display correctly in FSX over the years but I don't know how to fix this one. In my opinion it's not worth bothering with.

Hi Hagar, it's not bothering me, I'm just curious :D . But I know, curiosity killed the cat hahaha.
