Product Key for Microsoft FSX

While trying to install FSX on my new computer the error message came up stating that the program had already exceeded the allowable number of installations and thus would not complete the installation. Microsoft no longer sells this program, so it seems there is no way to purchase a workable Product Key from them - or even a new copy of the program. Has anyone encountered this difficulty before? And if so, does anyone have a suggestion for a remedy?
Many thanks for any clues!

There is REALLY no 'limit' as to times you can install FSX. But due to MS not having 'online' registration anymore (no servers to handle task) you must obtain the 1-800 number (google it, pick your country, etc) and then just be sure to be 'online' when you call. The 'bot' (not a real person) will give you a set of numbers to enter into an online form, etc. Follow the instructions and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.

Oh, and when you uninstall FSX it makes a note of it but does not remove all the 'left over' files (which is what it uses to keep installations 'count') so you must also google 'removing fsx files after uninstall' and use that to clear the registry and delete left over files. A little bit of work but not too difficult. It's 'ok' to do this. It's just MS not giving support that requires you do 'work around'. No illegal - just a PITA.

This may be a great time for you to move up to FSX-Steam Edition. Its far superior to FSX and after using it you would not want FSX for free. You can transfer your scenery and aircraft addons to FSX-SE.
Just go to the STEAM website and buy FSX-SE, its very cheap and a pleasure to fly.
There are many many demo flights etc. on YouTube for FSX-SE.

Thank you all for the wonderful (and practical) suggestions! I'll try both immediately. With luck, you'll soon have me airborne again.
Most gratefully,

LOL, you are correct my friend. Windows 10 runs my FSX-SE with no problems at all.
As soon as my FSX-SE was up and running I uninstalled my FSX boxed and have never looked back. All I need to do now is FLY without any tweaking, fiddling, swearing, just FLY.
When ORBX Global BAse and VECTOR was added I was in a whole new world of enjoyable flight-simming.
I will move to a 64-bit Flight Sim one day but I am in no hurry due to how well my present Sim works. I want the new Sims to prove themselves and get some updates and improvements. I am thrilled at the recent developments in Simming and I hope you are also. <S>.
