Well, I'd say that yes, NVidia Inspector (NVI) is still the way to go, somehow.
NVI will propose you much more choices than the regular NVidia Control Panel when it comes to the antialiasing modes.
I would recommend you the following settings:
1- In the sim:
- Ensure the antialiasing flag is set (should already be like that, from what you wrote)
2- In NVI:
- Select the FSX profile
- Ensure the two settings related to "transparency" antialiasing is set to OFF or disabled
- Ensure the texture filtering is set to "quality" or "best quality"
- Set the antialiasing "behavior" setting (somewhere at the beginning of the settings list) to "none"
- Set the antialiasing "mode" to "replace application settings"
- Set the antialiasing "setting" to "8xSQ" for a first test (it will give a smoother picture, with less flickering/jaggies, but also a little lack of "crisp"....)
- Click on "Apply Changes" green button in the top right corner of the NVI profile edition window
3- In Windows:
- Navigate to the folder c:\user\your name\appdata\Local\Microsot\FSX\Shaders
- Delete all of the files/folders you see in there (they will be recreated next time the sim is launched)
- Launch FSX with "run as an administrator" (right click, or alter the shortcut properties...)
You should see some changes. Let me know if you need more details.
