Black panel

Postby talon2fe » Thu Jul 13, 2017 9:29 am

I downloaded the P3D V3 & 4/ FSX Boeing 777X Qatar Airways Package (Updated) but when I opened it in Free Flight the VC panel is black. Some of the gauges show but not all. There are several switches missing as well. I have tried to install other versions of this aircraft but had the same issue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Works fine for me in FSX-SE.

Which version of FSX are you using?

It may be your settings. Do you have Direct X 10 selected in your display options?

If you click texture.cfg file (inside texture.qtr) - does it open in notepad?

Other than that try 1 thing. Try putting the textures in the folder textures.vc into the textures.qtr then restart FSX.

Looks like missing textures.
Make sure you have a folder named texture.vc in your main qatarb777x folder.
Then open the texture.qtr folder & find the file named texture.cfg.
Open this in Notepad & make sure it's pointed to the texture.qtr folder like this:

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\texture.vc
fallback.2=..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture
fallback.3=..\..\..\..\..\..\Scenery\Global\texture

Please tell me if this helps.

Edit. cevans & I posted at the same time. He is the author of this update.

Hagar, that fixed it. I was missing the texture.vc folder. I used AdditPro to install the aircraft.
Now I have another issue. None of the switches are usable in VC. I mouse over them and nothing. Not even the landing lights.
In normal cockpit view some of the switches work, but some are missing.

Glad that fixed it.

Sounds like missing gauges.

I used AdditPro to install the aircraft.

I suspect that is the cause of your problems. It apparently doesn't recognise some types of gauge files. These are all contained in the Panel folder of this aircraft.
FSX can read them from there.

I've never used AdditPro or any other auto-install software. Never felt the need.
I suggest learning to install addons manually. It's not difficult once you understand the basics.

I tried installing it manually, but it still isn't working. I'm going to uninstall it and look for another 777. Thanks for the help.

Installation of the Qatar B777X is straightforward enough but the actual "aircraft container" folder is hidden inside another folder.
This is a fairly common feature of some downloads that fools a lot of people. The "aircraft container" folder is the one directly containing the Model, Panel, Sound & Texture folders.
In this case the folder you need to paste into the FSX SimObjects\Airplanes directory is named qatarb777x. See the highlighted folder in my shot below.

The default FSX location is well hidden & difficult to find. Once you find that elusive SimObjects\Airplanes folder may I suggest creating a desktop shortcut to it.
This will make things so much easier in future.

This is the default location for FSX:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X -

Then look for Simobjects folder

Then inside Simobjects you will see the Airplanes folder

Please also see this. Once you understand the basic install you will have little problem.
