I recently thought I would give ORBIX freeware scenery a try so I down loaded FTX and the necessary libraries and proceeded to install some of the freeware packages one package was FTX Global Airport package and another one had to do wit some AI plans.
After the install was complete I fired up FSX to check it out and was surprised to find out that All of my default AI plans and all of the World of AI plans were no longer there. The sky was empty and so were all of the major airports like KATL;KJFK;KLAS:KLAX and others there was no AI aircraft any where to be found. What really surprised me was FSX treated the AI package as scenery which I thought was odd to say the least. Perhaps I misunderstood the package
it was AI Traffic North America. It was supposed to install general aviation AI like Pipers Cessna's and so forth now I did notice that this was only supposed to be for FTX airports and I had none installed. But I am still at a lost aas to why it installed as scenery?
So I wound up removing Everything that I had just installed and than reinstalled my AI packages and every thing is back to where it should be.
So needless to sayI will not be trying any ORBIX products any time soon.
As I stated Per haps I did something wrong if someone could shed some light on this issue I am more than willing to listen

ORBIX is a crunchy biscuit.

ORBX is a scenery package.

Okay Enough of the humor does anyone have any ideas as to why I had this problem?

Simple answer is there no simple fix
Orbx operate a forum on their website and you can add your problem to the list after registering. Usually there is a fix but sometimes not.
Orbx apparently causes most problems by overwriting files which creates issues for existing addons
I solve the problem by running 2 systems one all Orbx scenery (old slow computer) and the other one with none.
Expensive solution - yes

Thanks I had a hunch that this was the case so for me the fix is to not install ORBX products period. I really can not believe that a company would design products that replaced default scenery they could at leaat warn people that this might happen.
Oh well no big loss. I usually get my addons from Just Flight or Sim Market and so far I had one problem with a just flight product that was caused by a corrupt download and the problem was resolved quickly. I also had a problem with an airport I downloaded which was KJAX my home base the problem was that ATC did not have the runway numbers correct. KJAX recently changed runway numbers due to magnetic variation They used to be 07/25 and 13/31 but now are 8/26 and 14/32 They made a quick fix and solved the problem.

In a way you are missing out as their scenery is much better than the default FSX and does not take excessive space like some photoscenery. When it works it is brilliant. You can get everything working just so and then add something else and .....back to holes in runways or blue golf courses.

Hi Gary, I also got seduced into the ORBX world with their demos about two years ago. Their Pacific NW (essentially Bowerman airfield and surrounding area) and Tasmania demos worked fine and while their Iceland demo was breathtakingly beautiful, it completely messed up my default textures. I had what looked like water lakes everywhere, on the sides of mountains etc. I could never get that fixed and had to re-install FSX. Funny enough, I recently loaded the ORBX Iceland demo again onto another PC with FSX and had that same problem again. ORBX forums are completely useless, run by a bunch of self-proclaimed "sheriffs" and not ORBX staff themselves. You may be lucky and get a fellow user to help you out on their forum sometimes.

As far as your aircraft AI problem is concerned, I'm pretty sure that you have to have their ORBX Global or one of the North American region sceneries installed. So yes, the AI aircraft add-on is free and it works, but only if you bought the compatible ORBX scenery. I've used it with the Pacific NW and it works pretty well, but loads a bunch of aircraft into your "simobjects aircraft" folder, which I don;t like as it becomes very cluttered.

I'm also not buying or using ORBX anymore, since they changed the whole system to buying and downloading exclusively on their website, kinda like the old Microsoft Games for Windows Live (GFWL) sytem. Previously you bought the airport from another webstore and then downloaded it to your hard drive. Any patches were downloaded from the ORBX website if necessary. Installs were done in a matter of seconds or minutes. With the new ORBX system you install directly from their website, almost like having a remote hard disk. The problem with that is that if you have a slow internet connection (4 or 10Mbs), it can take you literally a day or more to install a region and an airport or two. And if you think you want to go for a quick flip, prepare to wait a few hours while it first downloads a new patch. You are also restricted to only four or five downloads per day, due to all the congestion they experienced. In my case it was one per day, i could never get more. I don't know if that is still the case, as I abandoned that farce a while ago. So if you really want to go the ORBX route, be prepared for some frustration.

I still find it hard to believe that a company would have that kind of an approach
It seems as they think it is there way or no way
In my case it is no way
I am still struggling to get my default AI scenery working again. I am hoping not to have to uninstall and reinstall FSX as that is such a pain in the rear.
I asked for help on there forums and got blasted because I dared to complain. I was told that I did not know what I was doing
The post wound up being locked by an administrator.
So as far as I am concerned I will not touch ORBX anytime soon unless they can prove to me they have changed I might think about it
