ATC is not responding

Postby gordie3640 » Sun May 28, 2017 3:42 pm

I started a flight session by pressing ` key and the ATC window opened with two options, ATIS and Ground. I chose ground and got several take off and taxi options. I chose one with no controller response. I tried every one with no response. I was using it successfully yesterday. Any ideas on a reason or a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Are you at a controlled airport? At small airports without towers, you just announce takeoff and go, without receiving clearance from ATC.

If you are trying to file a flight plan you will still have to contact ATC But if the airport you are at does not have a tower than there is no ground or tower ATC,
You file a flight plan as usual and ATC will tell you that you are cleared as filled and that your clearance will expire in thirty minuets from now. This is the one major difference between controlled and uncontrolled airports
at a uncontrolled airport you will have to decide which runway to use remember you want to take off into the wind as much as you can.
What I do when at an uncontrolled airport is to locate the wind sock to see which way the wind is blowing and choose my runway based on that. I some times use slew to locate the wind sock
And in case you did not know the runway number is also the heading in which you fly to land on it within a few degrees example runway 9R the heading will be 090 degrees plus or minus a few degrees so it might be 093 or 094.
Runway 12 would be 120 or close to it and so forth. The larger airports will have one runway for takeoff and one runway for landing this allows for less congestion 8-)
