FSX Steam Edition will get you back up and running quite easily without messing around with installing from disk, and all the SP updates.
Hopefully you don't need the SDK though....although that can be worked around too.

i guess sdk is only if you need to modify planes and scenery??...if so ...i wouldn't need that....so all planes and scenery can be installed on fsx steam without problems?

From what I've heard, here and elsewhere, people seem happier with the FSX Steam Edition.

FSX SE files are basically the same as FSX. After you download the program and want to add aircraft or scenery, etc, simply go to C drive, Program Files (x86) ,scroll down to Steam, select Steamapps, select common, select FSX. All the files you are used to seeing on FSX are there. In most cases you can drag and drop from FSX. Plus FSX SE runs faster.

oh....i'm installing it in an E drive....i remember it was best not to install in C drive.....hoping it doesn't make any difference.....and didn't use program files (x86), but separate fsx steam folder...hope it's not an oops.....probably 3-4 hours :)

Nero has a disk rescue product that may be able recover the files from your damaged disk, it is a slow process but I have used it a couple of times to reteive files from a damaged disc and write them to a fresh disk.

As for installing on the C drive that only applies to Windows 10 and it is only the Program Files(86) folder you have to worry about. Some people have turned down the UAC (USER ACCOUNT CONTROL) But I just do not install any thing in that folder. Any other folder on the C drive is fine. 8-) <<v

Assuming that your E: drive is an actual drive and not a patrician on your primary drive....

I think that it's a good idea for many reasons.

Just a tip to make your install life easier - Put your flight sim here - "E:\Program Files (x86)"

That way EVERY time that an install program wants to install something into FSX, the worst that you have to do is to change ONE letter - C to E.

Also the folder name "Program Files (x86)" is only special on the C: drive.

For what it's worth, I have an "E:\Program Files (x86)" and a F:\Program Files (x86)".

E: is a regular hard drive, and F: is a silid state drive that I have Prepar3d installed on.
