I received a nice wide screen monitor for Christmas but FSX doesn't take advantage of a lot of it. Is there some way I can?

In the FSX.cfg file find this section and change the WideViewAspect=False to WideViewAspect=True
The FSX.cfg file can be located in C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

I personally am not keen with the setting it looks distorted at the edges when viewing from the VC.

Thanks for the help. However, I don't have an appdata folder in my personal users folder.
