And another word of warning:
Maybe about 6 months ago, the sound on my FSX PC went dead. No amount of checking, cross checking, driver updates OR ANYTHING could get it to work again.
(Sound on my system is Asus 7.1 Xonar surround sound on PCI slot. Tested the card in another machine and it is fine.)
In the end I concluded that it must be hardware related, that the something on the mobo must have blown.
Having a spare machine with a very similar Asus mobo, I went ahead and swopped the mobo's from one machine to the other.
After a good couple of hours, I got the MAIN PC set up and working once again with sound for FSX, and relegated the other PC for browsing
with no sound.Then,
lo and behold, I accidently come across an article on line, stating that one of the
Windows updates were "breaking" some peoples sound systems, stopping it from working,
AND,
that a bug fix was included in some subsequent updates.Well you guessed it. Having read this I promptly went checking the spare machine, and there it is ..Working in all its glory. Some later update must have "fixed" it.
Well I'm glad to have come across this article, but it caused me a lot of stress and disappointment, thinking that my PC is bust, not to mention all the work to swop and set-up two mobos'.
For what its worth,
Jan
