Maybe the FSX R22 isn't that unrealistic

Look at this video

I've always been a helicopter fan and have been lucky enough to have a friend who is a real life heli pilot and I have spent many hours in R22 & R44 helicopters.
I also love flying heli's in FS.
Anyone who has tried flying the R22 in FSX will probably relate to some of those moves - flying backwards - turning all round - overcorrecting and then going out of control. Easy to be put off! But ....
Same thing happens in this real life video of a novice starting on Robinson R22 & R44's.

Remember - it just takes time and learning to perfect!

Very interesting video, and quite similar to my experience in flying helicopters in FS :D
I love the default R-22.
I just wish someone would fix the clunch to make it work correctly...

Great Video Pete.
I watch the student Heli Pilots at my local aerodrome and this all looks very familiar. The thing with flying Helis in the Sim is that there is no inertia or peripheral vision to help you out. This is real "seat of the pants flying" and it helps to have the skills of a juggler.

Great video.

100% correct! It would be a hell of a lot easier with a VR headset. It's an interesting point about unconscious brain training. The brain getting used to something counter intuitive almost without you realising it.

My take on helicopters.... ;) ...!

Quote:
"Helicopter Instructor Pilots are either complete idiots, of incredibly brave.
They get into a helicopter with someone they have never met....
...and give them the controls!"
End quote.

I have been occasionally practising this helicopter flying malarkey starting in FS '98.

I think I finally gave up in FS '99.

I decided life was far too short, and in real life, either me, of the instructor, or both of us, was likely to die in the attempt.

In the end, I decided to extend both our lives, and concentrate on; "flying" proper aeroplanes, fitted with a pair of wings, and a fan up at the pointy-end.

Its now 2016, and I have survived....(and so have all the Instructors, and the Cessna 150/152 Trainer aircraft).... :D ...!

To tell you the troof, I have never got any fun out of "sim-flying" helicopters... ...!

..its take far too long to learn...and I haven't got the patience...and/or the will to die young!

Paul.... ....!

P.S. A gyro-copter/gyroplane is the nearest I get to having fun in a; "whirlybird"...>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8IB-5PbL9U
