Need help with Dubaix

Postby proudarmchairpilot » Fri Aug 05, 2016 1:30 pm

Hello,

I recently downloaded the Dubai x pack 1 and 2 from this site. The readme.txt was not the best because the author's first language wasn't English (which is fine). After installation using the old add to Addon scenery and then activate in FSX trick I opened it up and the airport is fantastic except the runways are basically dirt runways. I checked the readme again and tried uninstalling and adding all the .bgl files from pack two to pack one and reinstalling which didn't help. Finally I uninstalled the whole package and made a backup. Then I imported it into ADE thinking i'll just add some asphalt runways to it. However, when I opened the file I was surprised to see that the runways were already asphalt. Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

I tried the Dubai X download with part1 and part2 installed very nice buildings and washed out runway due to photo textures at ground level, photo textures always look better with altitude, with just part 1 installed runways display normally but airport buildings less detailed. I didn't try the alternative AF2 file mentioned in the readme.

While that might be true it's also much easier to land on an actual runway haha. I guess I will try just taking pack 2 out and doing just pack 1. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks.

I just tried it using only part 1 and I still had issues with it. I ultimately decided that it wasn't worth the trouble and I just uninstalled the whole package and went back to default scenery. I don't fly in or out of Dubai that often so it's not a huge deal. Mainly whenever I want to fly an Emirates flight or an A380. Still, landing a helicopter on the Burj Khalifa would have been nice. Thanks anyways for the help. I appreciate it. <<r

The problem that you can get whenever you add scenery is you have to make sure it is displayed in the correct order. By that I mean have you ever noticed that when you open the add scenery tool you will see all of your scenery and that it is assigned a number which is how it is displayed. You have to think about a blank screen and how to add content to it in the proper order.
One bad habit of FSX is any new scenery you add will get put at the top of the lists( I hope that is correct for the life of me I can not remember now ) and the problem with that is if there was existing scenery all ready in place that can present a problem which is why sometimes after adding a new airport to one that all ready exists can be a problem you can wind up with all kinds of wired problems like aircraft in the middle of a hangers, trees and other odd things on the taxi ways and even on runways. Some scenery designers will use what is called an exclude line which will wipe an area clean of any thing that was there before. By doing this they ensure that the new scenery does not interfere with the old scenery.
Bottom line here the order in which you display scenery is very important get it wrong and you will have some strange effects. I usually will make sure any add on scenery is put on the bottom of the lists which means it will display last but you can not do this every time. The readme file should explain how to install the scenery, But the problem here is that scenery designers have no way of knowing what scenery each person all ready has on there system.
So you have to be careful where you get your scenery from
Always make a backup of your scenery.cfg file before you install any scenery.
IN your case you were displaying the new scenery first only to have it replaced by the old scenery later resulting in it looking like nothing changed. All you had to do here was to put the new scenery at the bottom of the lists and odds are that would have corrected the problem. However this may not be the case as it could have been the scenery was just bad.
That is why it pays to make sure you get any addons from a reliable source.

That's why I always get my scenery Simviation

Thanks for explaining. I know what you mean about it adding it like that but I never thought it made that big of a difference. I guess I will have to pay closer attention from now on. :)
