Can you be a bit more specific? What are you flying? & you change time/season in FSX (to what for example?) and it crashes? Freezes?

hi pete, if i save a flight from, say, yesterday and open it today, i would change the date & time to todays date & current time. when i do this i get a message saying " A problem caused the program to stop working. windows will close the program and search for a solution". this happens when flying both default & addon aircraft. this problem also occurs when i change location, ( move plane from 1 airport to another ).

" A problem caused the program to stop working. Windows will close the program and search for a solution"

I reckon its a common fault, similar to the dreaded; "Blue Screen of Death", from which most of us suffer, no matter which version of Windows that we are running...

....and for which there is no known answer.....

.....so don't expect a solution any time soon...

It is just designed to drive us all mad... :evil: ...!

Does it happen when you change time/date/season on your current flight, or is it only on previously saved flights?

What version of FSX do you have i.e., does it have all service packs installed?

Are there any entries in the event viewer that give you a clue?

(Control Panel/Admin tools / Event viewer/Admin Events)

Have you tried connecting to the internet and letting it actually look for a solution?

How long have you been having the problem? I only ask because Win 10 updates sometimes installs “new” drivers that are actually worse than the “old” ones.

hi sinkrate, this problem happens on both current flight and saved flights. the problem started when i got a new pc with windows 10. before that i had windows 7 with no problems. the version i have is fsx delux edition, i have service packs 1 & 2 installed. i purchased fsx acceleration but when i installed it in windows 10 it does not request an activation code so i dont know if it will work without the act. code

If I read this correctly, you installed SP1 & 2 before the Acceleration pack. I think you might need to uninstall SP2 in order to install Acceleration. See details here:

https://www.microsoft.com/Products/Game ... eadMe.aspx

Did you install FSX on the same drive as Win 10? If so, it might be a good idea to reinstall it on a different drive.

Did FSX activate OK?

If you can’t get to the bottom of this, I would suggest reinstalling the whole bang shoot, being careful to get it in the correct sequence. Test the basic installation of FSX before installing any additions. Then, if it works, test after installing each addition. If you uninstall, be sure to get rid of ALL of the old files. Some of them (including fsx.cfg) will be hiding on the Win 10 (C?) drive in an obscure place e.g., C/users/name/app data/roaming/microsoft/fsx It might be a good idea to try regenerating fsx,cfg before doing anything too drastic. Just rename the existing one fsx.old and let FSX sort it out.

Ensure that you have:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
Install for the 32bit or 64bit Windows OS.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downlo

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x64)
In addition, Install this as well for a 64bit OS
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl

Which version of Direct X are you using? The DX10 preview function in FSX should tell you if it is using DX10. I find that DX9 is best.

You could also try running in “normal” and “windowed” modes to see if that makes any difference.

To be honest, there are so many things that can go wrong with FSX, it is difficult to try to guess what the problem is without seeing the actual machine. Did you try looking in the event viewer after the crash? When ever a program crashes, it will generate an entry there. It might give an indication of what caused the problem.

Also, keep an eye on viewtopic.php?f=21&t=175679. Bruce seems to be having similar problems.

Did you test FSX after the first basic install with no additions / mods? If you still had the problem, there is no point in going any further.

It appears that the links I quoted for the Visual C++ are now defunct. I believe the new ones are here:
