Hello...I think I read this a long time ago and that this issue was fixed for the 747s, :P but I dont know were to look ... :oops: .....If I can get some help or orientation it will be appreciated...I have two planes..THOMAS RUTH AIRBUS A340-300 SERIES and Chris Evans Airbus A330-313X Swiss International Airlines, both are for FSX. :clap:

Both planes over turn the main steering wheel and dont turn on the corners during taxiing. :oops: :o They sikd..cant use the power of the engines because the coontrols are as one piece not separated ( power forward or reverse ). Could use left or right power if they were one for each engine, but.

There is a module for FSUIPC that makes ground friction more realistic. I believe you need to have a registered version for the modules to be activated.
I'm afraid I am not an expert on FSUIPC however, so perhaps someone here can chime in. Otherwise maybe poke around the FSUIPC forums.

I tried the Thomas Ruth A340-300 & see what you mean. The nosewheel steering angle in Aircraft.cfg is set at 90 degrees. You could try changing it to 75 to start with. The entry in red is the steering angle in degrees.

If Doug's (Hagar) fix works please let me know and I'll post it on the main site. Most simviation users don't look at these forums and it would be good to post a fix for the Thomas Ruth A340 -

Hello.

Sorry for the delay.....tried to do what HAGAR wrote without success.

As in real airplanes, I think, the max angle is 60 °. Thats way you have the ...V...angles in the main gear....I tried it and it dosent work.

I thought it might be the file so I deleted my file and downloaded a new full file of the fleet of LUFTHANSA assembled by Alan de Jager and tried the fixes with the A330 and the A340.....same thing..dosent work.... :!:

Also Ive noted that if you put the same value in the contact points ...line...point.1=1... I thought might be the turn to the other side...but it blokes the front wheel to turn to the right. So nothing doing..

I was looking in the forum of SIMVIATION and in other forums for a solution, but I could not find anything. Most probably not asking the right question or not in the right place. A lot to look into.. :cry:

That the max speed for taxi in these birds can not go above the 15 kts on a 90 degree turn, left or right, so I help myself with the independent thrust controls and dynamic breaks..Other aircrafts dont have these problems on sharp turns with the main gear going 90 degrees....like the 737, 787, 747, A400, :oops:

Matter of practice, I think unless someone comes up with the solution....

I assume that this also will account that usually all the gears in all the planes are HALF BURIED or to 1/3 in the tarmacs...Since all the numbers are in the same place, contact points, it figures.

Does any body now what representataion each numbre have ???? Could use them to have the plane look better..

Oh...I really apprecciate HAGAR AND PETE for your knowledge, little help and the answers Ive always received from both of you....I dont come in frequenttly but many , many thanks to both of you... :lol: :D

Im open to any sugestions, ideas, help, etc, etc, and more etc......... :P :idea: :idea: :idea: :idea:

Hi. Dave in KALN here. I tried changing my aircraft.config from 90 to 75 and it worked great even in a heavy thunderstorm no slipping on the Thomas Ruth a340-200/300. Just thought I would pass it along.

...Ive already tried that aproach and it stills skids....It didndt work for me....I also put the numbers to 60 on both lines and the gear didnt turn to the right so I undid it...
Planning to change the hole contact points using any other aircraft similar in size( 757s, 787s, or 350-900wxb ) dont know yet the outcome but if it works Ill post again....Thanks and have a great day...

I've been wondering about the whole "friction problem" for a while too. Don't know much about FSUIPC, but it looks like something you gotta pay for in order to use it... Is there any free solution in order to make crosswind landings and takeoffs at least possible?

I don't have the payware version of FSUIPC, and I have been taking off and landing in crosswinds since years in FSX and P3D. I don't see the problem ? :|
And yes, before you ask, my realism settings are maxed out and I fly both payware and freeware aircrafts.

Here's an example:
Wind is 20 knots perpendicular to the runway. Pretty much any jet I fly. On takeoff roll... With full rudder, I can't keep the aircraft on the centerline. I usually end up with my main gear in the grass by the time I rotate. It's like trying to take off from a runway made of ice, the tires really do nothing.
Does the free version of FSUIPC correct the ridiculous lack of tire friction?

You are in luck, because yes there is.
You need FSUIPC, and you can access the friction fixes with the unregistered version.

Our friends at mistymoorings have explained how to do it in a quite easy to understand forum post. Here is a link to make everyone's life easier.

Good luck. And results may vary depending on the aircraft. Some developers have included modifications with their aircraft models to try and simulate better ground friction. Strange things might happen if FSUIPC and the developers "fix" get mixed together. From what I understand however, you can add custom aircraft profiles into the ini for FSUIPC that controls what modules act on specific aircraft. THAT might be something you can only do with a registered version.

After following the instructions, I can't seem to find any .ini files after I install FSUIPC... :think:

Nevermind! I fired up FSX after I installed FSUIPC. Now there are .ini files! :D

What? No 'fix'? And is the fix done with FSUIPC? You can search until the cows come home but don't NEED a 'fix'. What you need to realize is that you need differential braking AND added throttle to make these big iron turn. The problem is that there is no differential braking in aircraft cfg's (brakes) section. If you add that line, and use it, you will prevail. You need to add power just before you start your turn, then use differential braking to control speed and turning rate, and then back off on power when nose wheel gets back to going straight. No mystery to that. Use my head.

While you don't necessarily NEED a fix, the fix really adds to the realism... In real life, your nose wheel doesn't slide on a dry taxiway as if it was on ice!
