Have you tried cleaning the disc?

Hi

Found this with a google search. Do you let your fingers touch the surface of discs or put them down on unclean surfaces? If so that may be your problem ... but other possibilities too.

Let us know how you get on and don't let a little problem like that stop you using FSX.

Is this a brand new, sealed package of FSX disks, or a package of FSX disks that you have used before on another computer....

...or a set of used, second-hand FSX Disks from another source?

Paul.

Hi Amelia,
I have no idea about your hardware or software but I strongly suspect that your problem is related to a conflict with some software you have installed and the way the data is encoded on the FSX discs. If this is the case here is the solution.
Uninstall the data related to FSX that's already been installed. Go into Safe mode. (I recently had to run "Msconfig" and select the Safe mode boot option). Create a new folder and copy the contents of both FSX discs to the same folder. Many of the files are duplicates so just skip these. If needed run Msconfig again to stop from booting into safe mode. Run Setup from the new folder. Installation should complete without problems. If you have Gold or Acceleration I recommend that while in Safe mode you create a different folder for it and copy the Acceleration files to it and then after FSX is installed install Acceleration from that folder.

The first thing I would do in this case is to look closely at the disk to make sure there are no smudges or scratches. If this does not work I would see if I can open the Disk to see if I can see the files that are on it.
Just exit out of the install than with disk two in your drive you should be able to open it and look at the folders and files that are on the disk. If you can not look at the disk than the disk has got damaged somehow. If you bought this from a reputable place they should replace the disk free of charge. If you got this from a friend than you are out of luck.
The only other thing you might try is to install as administrator. Mind you this option will only come up on windows 7 and above.
If you can see the files but still have issues I suggest you contact Microsoft as your installer might be corrupt.
If you have a program called Malware Bytes I would run it. If you do not have this program I would download it and run it. Just do not use the trail version. This program will look for spyware and Malware on your system. I run it at least once a month.
I have used this program on some of my friends systems and have found over several hundred unwanted programs called PUPS and a whole lot of spyware and Malware on their systems.
And it is free. But like I said just make sure not to use the trail version or it will want you to buy it after a few days.

Forget all the virus scan nonsense.
Either the disk is dirty or damaged, or your optical drive is dirty or damaged. Seeing as how you managed alright with disk 1, I would suspect disk 2. Clean and inspect it. If it won't work, then throw the disks away and buy fsx from the steam store. FSX SE runs a little better anyways.

Yes and if he ever does have a problem with FSX-SE he can call up a backup or re-download from STEAM. Nice.
