Windows 10 problem

Hi, my computer just completed its upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Home Ed . Upon starting FSX (gold edition) I had encountered the black load screen with no progress bar. When my flight loaded several minutes later than it usually takes to load it was un-eventful. Just like back with Win7. Upon my flights end I pressed Esc and the screen went black. Thinking it was going to take a few minutes to return to the menu screen I waited and waited with no success...just several minutes of black screen. I then had to re-boot my machine. I then tried the solution I read in the forums about checking off the boxes of the legacy components in the Control Panel, re-started my machine and fired up FSX. I still had the same black load screen with no progress bar which seemed to take several minutes to load. The flight started and I had no issues. Upon ending the flight by pressing Esc the screen again went black and stayed black for several minutes...10, until I re-booted my machine again. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. If worse comes to worse, I guess I can manage with the long loading time and needing to re-boot the computer after every flight.

And people mocked me for not wanting Window 10 to auto install on my computer. I feel your pain right now. I guess you are supposed to have a temporary undo for that when you asked for the install, not sure about the update install.
If you get it back to Windows 7 get never 10 and run it. It is a small exe file you execute and you do not have to worry about it.

I know there is a fix for this, but I cannot remember what it was... Try searching this forum for fix. I'm pretty sure that is where I found it.. I havent really had any issues with 10 and FSX otherwise.

This is apparently a common problem. If you can get into FSX Settings try enabling the "Preview DirectX 10" option from Display settings.
I should point out that I've never had any problems running FSX or any other software on Windows 10. I found the above solution on various forums.
Upon ending the flight by pressing Esc
I always exit FSX by pressing Ctrl + C.

The easiest way to solve your problem is to have you run FSX in a window, rather than full screen. For some reason, placing FSX in full screen mode creates all sorts of problems and upsets for WIN 10. Once you're in the air, you can of course switch to full screen mode, but you have to remember to return to the window if you want to change any parameter of your current flight. I've gotten used to being in the window mode, and it doesn't bother me any more; I had to because I'd keep forgetting to change view modes when making changes, and it got to be frustrating. Give it a try; I believe you'll see a big difference in FSX performance.

I have win 10, I had the same problem when I started FSX. I applied the UIAutomationCore.dll fix that is available on simviation and the problem stopped.

Hi, I have tried ending the flight using Ctrl+C to no avail. I have tried the fix of the UIAutomationCore.dll to no avail. Still getting nothing but black screen. I have not however tried enabling the preview DX10 in the display settings as mentioned by Hagar. I am un-sure if this is found in FSX games settings menu or is it found in the computers display settings. I was un-able to locate it at either place. Can anyone please tell me where to enable the preview DX10?

With FSX running click Options > Settings > Display. Then click the Graphics tab. Providing you have SP2 or Acceleration installed & a DX10 compatible video card you should see this screen. The DirectX10 option is at top right.

If this doesn't work try running FSX in a window (Alt + Enter) as suggested above.

Hi, OK I figured out why I was not seeing the DirectX 10 option box in FSX settings....because I had forgotten that I did not install my acceleration disc yet....my bad. The good news is is that I tried running FSX in windowed mode and, success!!! I was able to exit back to the main menu as before I got Win10 and not have to re-boot my machine. I selected another plane to fly and pressed fly now. I saw the loading bar show the progress of the load like before Win10. Great!! Once in flight I just switched back to full screen mode, flew for an hour, landed, parked, switched to windowed mode, pressed Esc and presto... I was back at the main FSX menu!! I am hoping that Microsoft will make updates to Win10 that will address some of the problems that people are having with Win10 and FSX, but for now...I will have to settle with switching in and out of windowed mode before and after each flight.

I'm glad that worked. I suspect that installing Acceleration would fix your problem.

I suspect that installing Acceleration would fix your problem.
... & just to clarify for those that don't know - this effectively means owning FSX Acceleration or installing the service packs Microsoft released for FSX standard edition ('Delux' I think it's called).
Service packs available here
