I had to have a new hard drive installed and my FSX and 2004 installed no problem then when I tried to install P3d and FSX steam no joy. I tried to install using administrator still no joy. I am wanting to install on my E drive that where the other 2 are. Has anyone had this problem before? Any help much appreciated. I am elderly and not too computer savvy!!!! I had 3-4 hundred planes installed and will have to reinstall that but at my age that will keep me out of trouble for a while. I have written Dovetail and P3d so far no response!!!! Thanks for your help. homeboy

I have no knowledge of P3d but if I remember correctly FSX-SE has to be installed to the default location in C:\Program Files (x86). I couldn't find an option to change this like I could in FSX Gold.

Concerning FSX-SE, it depends how many disks drives are available on your computer.
If you only have the drive C:, then Steam will only propose you to install in c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam....
But if you have other drives as well, then Steam should also propose you, in the installation popup, a choice sounding like "create a new Steam folder on X drive", where X is the drive letter.
Steam will only propose that choice for hardrives of course. DVDs or USB keys will not be considered I think.
You mentionned you have a "E" drive, so when you try to install FSX-SE (by right-clicking it in your games library in Steam, check the content of that popup. There is a multi-choice field. You cannot choose the exact name of the folder, but at least you can choose the drive.
However, I don't know why you would install both FSX and FSX-SE.... but that's your problem ;)

Concerning P3D, you should be free to install it wherever you want.
Could you describe a bit more what happens ? Your initial message is a bit vague. How did you proceed to install ? What steps did you perform exactely ? Perhaps we can try to spot some mistakes there :)

Hmm I don't really have an idea about what is going on there...
Have you tried to launch Steam or the P3D installation program with a right click first, and then select "run as administrator" ? (instead of the usual double-click)

Try right clicking on the extracted installer and choose "Run as Administrator". Might work.

That is strange I have three hard drives and I have FSX on one drive and FS2004 on another one. I can not see why you can not install any program any where you want to.
If I remember correctly the Gold edition of FSX will allow you to change the place you install it at but you have to look closely. It comes up in a strange way. What I did was to change the drive letter when it came up and said it was going to install at C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games Or something like that I just substituted D for C.
FS2004 actually gives you a window to allow you to change the install location.

I have full Administrator Rights on the whole of my computer.... :handgestures-thumbup: ....!

But even so, whenever I select a program, I always "Right Click" with the mouse, and select; "Run as Administrator" from the drop-down list.....

...just to show that I am; The Boss!.... :angry-tappingfoot: ...!

Paul...The Master of my Destiny!.... ...!

With three drives, I do the same. It makes it so easy to install software by changing ONLY one letter.
C:\Program Files (x86)\whatever
E:\Program Files (x86)whatever
F:\Program Files (x86)whatever

Here a little update on my problem installing my P3d and Steam. I wrote steam and Lockheed Martin P3d. Very promptly I got a very quick reply for a young man who is an administrator [Saul] with P3d and had me up and running in no time. with Steam it is a different story. You have to fill out at ticket and discribe the problem but its a real problem filling out all the required info about the specs of your os. But getting through there security system was quiet a challenge . My main problem was assigning to the drive that I wanted to install into. OAM thanks for your assistance that was a major problem. Every thing is up and running now except FSX-Steam. I am still waiting on them. Thanks again to all who have contributed to my problem of getting me back up and running. homeboy

I have to agree with you the Steam support is slow and I do mean SLOW. The biggest problem is to make sure you describe the problem correctly or the answer you get will be of no use to you.
I had a issue with a game on Steam and it took about three weeks before I finally got the correct solution. I hope you do not run into the same thing.

Thanks for the reply Gary I have the game downloaded in my download on my old hard drive and also have it download on another computer. I simply don`t have the knowledge to get that download on my new hard drive. If I go to my Steam acct it has no info on my acct. It likes its been erased . Do you have any idea how to get it to work on the original download or from the other computer? I have tried the right click thingy and no joy there. Thanks for your time!!!! homeboy

Once you have installed Steam on to any computer and logon to Steam all you have to do is to go to your games and click on a game and steam will download that game. I have to tell you that depending on the game the download could take some time as the speeds are not the fastest in the world,
The quick way to find your games is once logged on to steam close the window by clicking on the X in the top right hand corner. If you look in the lower right hand corner of your screen you should see a Steam ICON just right click on it and it will show you all of the games you have purchased. So there is no need to copy the game from one hard drive to another. Actually you would NOT want to do this because your system will not know where the game is at and it will not work correctly.
If you have any issues just let me know I will be more than gladly explain it to you and help you out.
