Can one have multiple installs of FSX on the same computer? If so, how would one go about this?

Thanks...

Instead of multiple installs, I'd suggest the use of this free tool, Sim Starter:

You can configure 9 situations, sceneries, and simobjects that I think is your purpose on this multiple installation.

ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION:

Yes it is possible with boxed editions. I don't know with Steam. Both boxed and Steam can work together.

I have done in the past with FS9 and FSX in order to have different types of planes in each installation.
But those FSX will have in common the folders containing FSX.cfg and scenery.cfg. You'll need registry editor.

So, more trouble than the worth of it? Hmmm...Guess I'll have to build another PC! Shame, ain't it?

Thanks. I wanted to have multiple installs so as to keep the number of Addon sceneries down to a manageable level in each. One install for North/South America and another for Europe, Africa & Asia.

Wait a minute! The scenery folder? Is it standalone in that I could copy it as is to another drive as a "base" copy, then add North America & South America sceneries to the one remaining in the FSX folder, copy, rinse and repeat with the different areas of the globe I want to enhance?

Could I simply substitute one copy of the scenery folder for another at will? Allowing FSX to rebuild Scenery index after each change out?

Or am I on the complete wrong track?

Your track is possible but Sim Starter does it for yo. There you'll get what you want in "one click". Don't waste your time and money in multiple installs.

Different copies of scenery.cfg, end in errors by my own experiencie. I did this before Sim starter appeared.
