More problems with Windows 10

Postby garymbuska » Mon Nov 16, 2015 8:30 am

Some thing I found out the hard way is Microsoft in all of their wisdom has made it where windows 10 will only see certain types of disks. By that I mean older disks will not load on windows 10.
I just recently lost my external 3.2 USB 1 terabyte hard drive. I was unable to recover any programs I had on it. And FS2004 was on that drive and I had some Payware Aircraft as well.
I was able to reinstall everything except for A B727-100/200 by Captain Sim But I had bought it from FSPilot shop. I kept getting a error message saying that it was unable to load FSTYPE.DLL
I wrote to FSpilotshop and was told that every one of there older disk were not able to install in windows 10 and they had nothing to offer me in its place as I wanted the B727
I managed to find a download of the same aircraft so I am back in business
So if you have any older programs on hard drives Be aware you might not be able to reinstall them in Windows 10. Of course if you have the knowledge to make the needed entries in the registry than you should be able to re load the backup.
But I would not suggest you try this unless you know what you are doing

So, I'm wondering now,

I too have an external Storage Hard Drive (Hanger) that I store a lotta Extra Aircraft and scenery files in, BUT , I also copied those same Aircraft on CD Disk too, as an added back up.

So, I'm now assuming from what you have experienced, that all that I did may be worthless too ??????????

You'd think, they'd been smarter that !

Some will probably say, that's why that FSX Steam is a good thing to back up store all your stuff on - BUT - is it really ??? :snooty:

That Steam is only as Good as long as you "Have" an internet connection to be able to retrieve your wares, so having "STUFF" stored on a "CLOUD" somewhere in wherever land out of your total control , I don't think is a good idea either to be so "Trusting" ~ !

I can see it now, a Hardcore Flight Simmer with several hundred dollars , or Thousands of bucks of his Payware Wares stored on some "CLOUD" somewhere, and for whatever reason - "POOF" the Magic Dragon comes along and everything is inaccessible or just gone !

Why ???? :ugeek: :geek:

Maybe a War break out - where the "Cloud" service is physically located, along with internet disruption

Really Big Huge Major Earth Quake hits the "Cloud" location

What "IF" a Rogue Meteor just happen to land on the "Clouds" storage services where their located and wipes out all their Cloud Thingy ma' Jobbers and your Stuff'ola with it :ugeek: :geek: :o

Well, come to find out inspector Clouseau, all this Techno' Gadgetry really isn't so Techno' after all ! :? :shifty:

Its NOT just us Flight Simmers that are experiencing problems either, what I'm finding out !

appears others that do other things with their computers are having issues too,,

Imagine a CNC Machine Shop, where all their CNC miils & Lathes & drills are programmed by a Computer software too,,

Again, typical Microsoft rushing junk out the door, to please those on Wall Street in the way of Sales, so Mickey Soft Stock goes up, to "Expectations", they think ?

bout like that Disasterous Windows Vista they churned out back a few years ago,, Ughhhhh - what were they thinking ???? or , were they ????

Microsoft has been bragging about how many millions have switched to Win 10 but they are strangely quiet about how many of those have rolled back to their previous OS.

(Windows) 7 is my lucky number and I'm sticking with it too.

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

I have a trouble free Windows 10 on my laptop, that I had upgraded from Windows 7. I only had to upgrade my graphics drivers.
I am running 3 versions of FS9, 2 in their default directories & 1 in the C:\ directory, as well as P3D.
Very Happy, no issues at all. Oh, UAC dropped right down. (it's pretty useless anyway)

As long as you do not have anything installed that is older than say 5 years or so you will not have a issue. I have erased all of my old windows files so the only way I can roll back would be to reinstall Windows 8 than update back to windows 8.1 and I would have to do a fresh install which is something I really do not want to do. That would be a major pain in the you know where  :naughty:

Well, I've got FS2004, thats about 10 years old & still works perfectly!... otherwise I've pretty much updated everything else.
You cannot really expect obsolete software to run in a up to date operating system.
& support is an issue with old software anyway.

The only issue I have is with my webcam, as there is no Windows 10 drivers. Having said that, it is a 'no-name' brand with drivers that came from 2005 anyway. So, I will be using a new webcam when I try out some head tracking stuff.

Does Microsoft allow you actually; "roll back" to older versions of Windows on your existing computer?... :o ...!

Most of my installed Games software dates from the invention of the Home Computer, ... ....so I am always worried about installing the latest version of Windows from Uncle Bill!

Paul....with Win 8.1....and Sinclair/Timex Spectrum/C64; "Monty on the Run", and "Attic-attac", etc.....even FS '98!.... ...!

I love all the old stuff.... I evolved with it!!...... :D ...!

Yes, if you do the free win 10 download from Win 7, 8 or 8.1 within 30 days unless you've uninstalled the old OS. :D Won't go as far as Win 2 though.

You can roll back to your old Windows as long as it has not been more than 30 days after that the only way to go back is to reinstall the old windows.

The only way I could get FS2004 to work was to use the NOCDpatch other wise it would not run no matter what I tried.
The one thing I noticed was right after updating to Windows 10 When I tried to run FS20004 It wanted me to use administrative sign on which it never needed before. I than found out that Windows 10 will treat any program it does not recognize that way. After installing the nocd patch it never asked for it again. Strange to say the least. :?:
