"Don't Sink" and "To Low Terrain"

Postby gippslandblanik1 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 12:39 am

Thank you Chris Evans for the recent fabulous package of the SectionF8 F86 for FSX it really works great! This is an absolutely first class add on aircraft and a lot of fun to fly. I would however like to remove the very annoying "Don't Sink" and the "To Low Terrain" call outs which are especially annoying on final approach to land. I have searched the sound, gauges and aircraft.cfg files for this add on but no luck. Any help from anyone would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Try to remove this section in the aircraft.cfg file:

[GPWS]
max_warning_height=1000
sink_rate_fpm=-1500
excessive_sink_rate_fpm=-2000
climbout_sink_rate_fpm=-100
flap_and_gear_sink_rate_fpm=-100

As usual, make a backup of this file first.

Cheers

Removing the section? Try ADDING this section to your aircraft.cfg. That will stop all that nonsense.

[GPWS]
//This Diables the 'don't sink', 'too low-flaps', etc call outs
//Courtesy of & Thanks to Rob Barendgret
max_warning_height= 0
sink_rate_fpm= -9999
excessive_sink_rate_fpm= -9999
climbout_sink_rate_fpm= -9999
flap_and_gear_sink_rate_fpm= -9999

Thanks Philippe and Chuck for the prompt responses. Chuck, adding your [GPWS] section to the aircraft.cfg fixed it! There was no existing GPWS section in the cfg file so were are these annoying call outs coming from? Once again many thanks, Max B

The GPWS is the name that was used for the section and it may not exist in all aircraft cfg files but the lines will
Names such as this are added so you can see the separate sections of the cfg file, and as I stated you will not be found these names in every aircraft cfg file.
You can always make your own names that is what I do. It makes finding things in the file easier.

NOBODY 'made' up that name (ie: GPWS). It stands for Ground Proximity Warning System. It is a SIM 'word', and not just a word we made up.
