Iris Mig 29 VC Panel

I have just downloaded the ex-payware Iris Mig 29 package and love the aircraft. However, I am disappointed by the very dark VC panel
which prevents me seeing the instrument dials properly. It is possible that the problem is in my own system and settings, although I don't
know where. I realse the VC panel is encoded in the aircraft itself and may be unalterable but perhaps someone else has seen this before
and may be able to help me correct it.I have obtained a very good 2D panel from the library and I am using that at present.Any help with
the VC panel will be much appreciated. Many thanks, RegT

Hi
It's good for me

Is it the only VC that is dark?

Hi Pete, Thanks for your reply. Now that is the vc panel I want!!! What I haven't got is the shine from the panel background, between the gauges, so it is probably in my settings somewhere. I have noticed a similar darkening in other aircraft vc panels, although not quite as bad as
the Mig's. If anyone can suggest which setting does this, I will be grateful for some help. Thank you. RegT

Can you provide a screenshot? Is the panel background completely black? (If so you are probably missing the VC textures)
The one I check out was this one (there are a few versions of the same aircraft available)

Hi Pete, I have now got a screen shot which shows the problem. Let me know what you think. I am also going to download the Mig 29 redux file that you used to check out that vc. Back later on. RegT

It's another version of this aircraft .... But the VC brightness shopuld be the same. Try pressing Y for slew and slew around until the sun shines into the cockpit??

Your suggestion, to get the sun into the cockpit, works very well with plenty of brightness to see all the gauges. All I have to do now is fly north-west in the morning and north-east in the afternoon!!! I may have to settle for that compromise, at least for a while, but I still hope
that a fix is available. Anyway I would like to thank you for your kindness, and wish you all the best. RegT

...have you tried increasing the "Brightness/Contrast/RGB" settings on your Graphics Card, or your Monitor, or both?
I sometimes have to increase the brightness of my Monitor to give me a bit more "sunshine" in my scenery!
I only fly on sunny days...(sunny California!)...

Hello flyer32,
FSX renders VCs darker than FS9, so it's a good idea to fly with your Cabin Lights on, even at daytime. If it doesn't help, take a look at the [LIGHTS] section of the aircraft.cfg and check:
- are the cabin lights defined (The line should be something like this: light.xx = 4, 14, 0.00, 3.00, fx_dsb_vclight_green)
- do you have the right effect file in your EFFECTS folder
If everything is OK, you could try to change the vc light and/or it's position, or add another one.
I hope I could help.
Greetings from Germany

fozzer and dieselpunk.
I tried adjusting the monitor and card settings but no good,as it affected other screen uses, also I found some VCs were not
so dark anyway and quite flyable. I checked through the aircraft.cfg and found the [lights] setting"fx_dsb_vclight_green".
There is also the same named file in the main FSX,effects folder, so that is ok.I think that file refers to the cockpit night
lighting as that is green too. Part of the problem is the panel background colour, which is black and the gauges do not show
up so well against that colour. I believe there is a utility to add lights to the cockpit to brighten the panel. Any ideas about that?
Would that work in daylight? RegT

I actually don't think you have a problem. I'm also a real flyer and often can't see the gauges unless I blank out the sun from my eyes with my hand. The screenshot you posted looks completely readable to me and completly normal. I can see and read the gauges fine in that. It just looks the same as most of VC's with the sun ahead ...

Hi Pete, Yes, I think you are right. I had the same problem driving home in the car, with a low sun in my eyes. I couldn't see the speedo!!!
I think it best if I close down the topic and get on with flying. Many thanks to you and fozzer and dieselpunk for your contributions.
I am sure if there was a solution you would have found it. Best wishes to you all. RegT
