AffinityMask and Bufferpool-My Results

Postby blackgranada77 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 10:22 pm

Have been reading several posts from different forums about AffinityMask and Bufferpools so I decided to see if it would help. Have been using KLAX Photo Real scenery as my test for FPS as this really takes a hit on my set-up. Normal FPS at LAX is @ 7-9 on the ground going to 40-50 plus once airborne. After editing my FSX.cfg to read - [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 I had an improvement of 2 FPS on the ground. Once in the air FPS stayed the same 40-50 but simulation was somewhat choppy so I put FSX.cfg back to original setting and tried Bufferpools Poolsize=0. I had an increase of 8 FPS on the ground to 15FPS instead of 7-9 and no choppy simulation. FPS also improved by 10 once airborne so I did get great results from Bufferpools but poor results from AffinityMask. These are just my results for my FSX cfg and my desktop pc. Yours will be different. It is not a cure all for everything. Try it yourself and see what happens.

Wow I'm a bit jealous of your system, I run Fsx gold on a couple of laptops w7 64 bit and only 4gb ram. I had to activate via phone make sure you have a pen handy its a bit long winded especially when you have to do the same thing with acceleration. Fsx runs very well with everything maxed out no problems apart from ai as I like to get off the ground occasionally no tweaks to cfg everthing runs fine even better using hdmi lead to smart tv no problems with frame rates your sytem should rock in comparison to mine. I have found Radeon HD graphics chips better for gaming but these two laptops run intel hd chipsets.

Dave T- Hello. My set-up was custom built by CyberPower and yes it did run FSX GOLD w/Acceleration at 25-30 fps + with all sliders set to max before I started adding all my add-ons. My biggest hit in fps came after installing KLAX Photo-Real Scenery v3.0 then ORBX Global Base Pack and several of their freeware and demo airports and mesh add-ons so I have been looking for something that would help regain some of my lost fps and so far Bufferpools has been the only tweak that has really worked for my system. Have also had some luck with HIGHMEMFIX=1. My biggest mistake was not having a SSD installed with the build and running FSX on it to help boot times.

I used to have a Toshiba laptop that ran a radeon hd chipset and that ran games a lot better than my intel especially hdr stuff, some games have silly artefacts with the intel chipset that I never encountered with the radeon setup. I have the Orbx freeware scenery installed and the wonderful Sunskyjet kphl installed and so far Fsx runs very well. I don't have many options anyway with it being a laptop I just added an extra 2gb ram when I bought it but its portable. I hope your system keeps running well and I probably will not update to windows 10 until I get another computer.

Not going to use Windows 10. Sticking with W7 Pro 64bit. Good luck with W-10 when you get it.
