Multiple Aircraft in a single Sim

Some Sims come with multiple aircraft - I don't mean textures but aircraft in the change aircraft screen. What do I edit to delete aircraft I don't want?
Also, many sims have no info in the knee pad. Is it possible to add info from manuals etc.?

Don't delete any "default" aircraft in FSX (or FS 2004)!

Many items in add-on aircraft are "aliased" to default aircraft, and will create an error if the aliased item cannot be found!

Add-on Aircraft can simply be removed by deleting the downloaded Aircraft Folder, or by putting the Aircraft folder into a spare Folder, for future use.

..but never delete any "default" aircraft.... :shock: ...!

Paul....!

That depends on what you mean by "multiple aircraft". If you mean the same model, but with multiple paints, you can edit out the sims you do not want from the aircraft.cfg.

If you are talking about an addon with multiple model configurations, such as a fightier aircraft with different external stores, you can do the same thing, simply delete the sim model you do not want.

[fltsim.0]
title=F9F CLN
sim=F-84F
model=CLN <========No weapons or pylons
panel
=F9FAH_FSX
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=
//ui_manufacturer=Militari italiani
//ui_type=Republic F-84F Thunder Streak
ui_manufacturer=Grumman
ui_type=F9F Cougar
ui_variation=Clean
description= Navy swept wing fighter from the 1950's
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

If you want a clean aircraft, delete the entire [fltsim.1] entry

[fltsim.1]
title=F9F PLN
sim=F-84F
model=PLN
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=
//ui_manufacturer=Militari italiani
//ui_type=Republic F-84F Thunder Streak
ui_manufacturer=Grumman
ui_type=Cougar
ui_variation=PLN
description=Navy swept wing fighter from the 1950's
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=5779
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

That will leave only the [fltsim.0] model.

Make a back-up copy of your aircraft.cfg file first.

If you don't want a plane, simply rename the aircraft.cfg file and the plane won't appear but the aliased files will be active.
Also you can create a folder of backup aircraft that you don't want and move them there. But never delete default planes, some addons (mainly Missions) require some of them for running the sim.

You can also remove a particular livery from appearing in the selection screen while keeping the basic aircraft by turning the panel "off". Using the examples above:

[fltsim.1]
title=F9F PLN
sim=F-84F
model=PLN
panel= XXX (or OFF, or whatever makes sense to you)
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=
//ui_manufacturer=Militari italiani
//ui_type=Republic F-84F Thunder Streak
ui_manufacturer=Grumman
ui_type=Cougar
ui_variation=PLN
description=Navy swept wing fighter from the 1950's
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=5779
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=

This will do 4 things for you:
1 - clean up your selection screen to only the aircraft you want; while,
2 - keeping the aircraft available as AI; and,
3 - making it easy to retrieve an aircraft if you want to use it later; and,
4 - as mentioned above, keeping all the aircraft's parts available if needed as aliased to.

I hope this helps.
