Have you tried plugging in headphones in the computer headphone jack? It's strange but that has eliminated my fsx error problems on 8.1 so far

I'm not sure if this solved it, but It was happening every time I changed settings in the sim. I decided to change a few things at the FSX.cfg level and It didn't crash.

When FSX was developed we did not have multi core processors, new computers have them and FSX does not know how to cope with them, some computers do better than others. FSX SE is supposed to do better but from my understanding P3D has done the best job of correcting for multi core processors.

I got it figured out. A bit of research and I found a windows 8.1 fix that worked. I got the latest version of uiautomationcore.dll directly in to the FSX folder.
