Orbx FTX

So now that I'm back I decided to rekindle my love for addons and did some digging around for where to start. I remembered back in my FS2004 years when Vista Australis was a very popular addon package and it featured breathtaking visuals especially for much of Australia. Since I don't have FS2004 anymore (poor discs got damaged over time) but still have FSX, I did some searching and found out about Orbx FTX. I'm wanting to try them out first and found the freeware section that they had.

But before I go ahead and install any of these, is there anything important I need to know beforehand? Keep in mind I am a bit rusty on how to install these files manually since it has been years already since I last did that. It might all come back to me naturally or I might fubar it somehow if I went ahead right away without asking.

Welcome back.

The "Freeware FTX Global Scenery" is kind of a come on - You need FTX: Global (base) to run most of the freeware.

However there are a few full showcase demos' that you can download. These never expire and highlight their systems.

FTX Global Iceland Demo

Personally, I think that what they're producing now is much better that what's in the YouTube video.

Other time unlimited and totally free sceneries are the Tasmania Demo & the Pacific Northwest Demo

I always thought it was a terrible shame that OZ didn't carry Vista Australis "VOZ" for FS 2004, over to FSX!
It produced, (and still does), some amazing (coloured/seasonal) scenery textures for FS 2004, all around the world, and for anyone still using FS 2004 it is well worth installing, a wonderful, unique program, and its free!

For FSX I use "FTX FS Global" for my FSX scenery mesh, and it is very accurate, especially combined with Flight 1 "Ultimate Terrain". (I have the USA/Canada, and Europe versions).

The above two downloads will get you well on the way with your FSX!
