I need help getting the afterburner to work on fighter jets. I downloaded the Iris F-15 strike eagle and several others and cant get the afterburner to work. I had the Iris F-15 before and it was working. But I had to uninstall FSX to fix a fatal error problem. Now FSX is working on Windows 8. I know i;m doing something wrong so maybe someone can point me in the right direction. OH I almost forgot but all of the default FSX aircraft work fine along with my other addons. The problem is just with addon fighters. Thanks.

Did you install any effects that may have came with the download?

Ok I got it working now. I was copying the effects folder and not its contents. I have one more question. I just downloaded the F-16 BAF SoloDisplay 2015 Demopack vol.6 and the afterburner works but not with the throttle. To use the afterburner you have to push the L key. So is there anyway to get it to work with the throttle or do I have to just live with it? Thanks.

For that aircraft, the effects folder was contained within the F-16 Demopack vol 6 folder, not in a separate effects folder. Copy the contents into the FSX effects folder. You can delete the effects folder in the F-16 folder after that, since it's not needed in the F-16 folder. Some downloads package effects and gauges in separate folders, some times in the aircraft folder.

Ok I put the effects folder in the fsx effects folder but I don;t see a gauges folder. The aircraft documentation says that the afterburner works when the throttle is 100%. So I think i;m still doing something wrong. Maybe you can see if you can get it to work and then tell me what i;m not doing right. As you can tell i;m new to this. So thanks for helping me.

Most aircraft gauges are kept in the Gauge folder of the FSX. However some people prefer to put the gauges of each aircraft inside of the aircraft folder this way if they remove the aircraft they remove the gauges as well and you will not have unneeded gauges in the gauge folder.
If you want to put the gauges inside of the aircraft folder just make a gauge folder inside of the aircraft folder and put the gauges in that folder instead of the gauge folder inside of FSX.
However DO NOT I repeat DO NOT put the gauges in both places so if they are all ready in the gauge folder you will need to move them to the gauge folder inside of the aircraft. Problem with this is knowing which gauges to move.
If you do not know I suggest that you download the aircraft again and than open the down load and look for the gauge folder this will tell you what to move.
And what ever you do DO NOT DOWNLOAD DIRECTLY INTO FSX.

ok here's the problem I don't see a folder for the gauges in the F16s folder. All of the other aircraft I have downloaded had a gauge folder. One more question. What do you mean by do not download directly into FSX? Thanks.

The gauges are already included in the Panel folder of the F-16. They will work fine from there.

I copied this from DSB_afterburner_ effect.txt in the Documentation folder of the F-16 BAF SoloDisplay 2015 Demopack vol.6. It might explain your problem with the afterburner.

******************* DSB Eurofighter Typhoon afterburner effect ***********************

DSB's Typhoon afterburner effect is not included with my F-16.

However, my F-16 is configured to use it .If you already have

the DSB Typhoon installed. Then there burner effect will be

visible with my F-16. If you don't have the DSB Typhoon installed

then you will have to go to there website to find out how to download it.
