Are there any seaplane bases in the UK in FSX? I find I can land a Grumman Goose wherever I wish (water or land) although sometimes the water conditions I find are not conducive to landing. I can take-off from Bournemouth and land in Poole Harbour which would be the preferred base. Usually FSX translates Poole as Compton Abbas although I can't seem to find that in the list. I know about saving the Goose at Poole and loading that then changing the aircraft but there has to be a simpler way doesn't there? Is it possible to use co-ordinates?

To the best of my knowledge FSX has no default UK seaplane bases.

Unless you can find a third party addon I think the easiest way to start on the water is to do as you suggest.
There's a few tips & a list of existing water runways here -->
https://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/freeflight/Pages/WaterWaterEverywhere.aspxI don't know if it's possible but you could always try creating a water base yourself with ADEX.

Although sea planes can be both fun & interesting, I truly like the old flying boats.
Shortly after getting FSX I flew from Southampton, UK to Botwood, Newfoundland in Canada.
Actually, I cheated and sped up the flight after passing Ireland.
Anyway, you're right - there just isn't much on water landing areas for the UK.
I had to find the correct area, take off on land, and then switch to a Boeing 314 mid-air.

Here's' what little I have containing some info that you might like:

Thanks Mr Jets, but no go.
That's good for the US and a VERY small list of other countries. But no UK.
The information is probably out there in paper format. Somewhere.
But all 3 1/2 people in the world who are interested have already read this post.

Copied from the link in my earlier reply:
Use Map View
If you know how to find your chosen body of water on a map, you can start on a land-based runway near the body of water you want to start on, then use Map view to move your seaplane onto the water:
1 On the World menu, choose Map.
2 Make sure Terrain Shading is turned on (click the icon on the far right to toggle it), then drag the aircraft symbol on the map to the water location of your choice.
3 Set the Altitude to 0.
4 Set the Heading as desired, and set the airspeed to 0.
5 Click OK.

Another way you can do this is to take your seaplane and land it where ever you want to them just create a flight from that point. If you press the Shift Z key it will bring up the coordinates as to where you are at than using this information you can create a water base right where you are at. It is not that hard to do in water as you do not have to construct runways and taxiways.
Also make sure to check for military water bases in the UK I do not know if there were any in the UK but it can not hurt to look.
I know that there are a few in the US NASJAX has ramps to this day that used to be used for the old PBY'S They landed in the Saint Johns River than taxied to the hangers by using the ramps on the seawall.

I have a list of the waterways available in FSX. I'm not sure where I got it from and I didn't make it myself. So I'm not sure if it's ok to post it up since it's not technically mine. I can tell you that it lists no UK seaplane bases. I would say 98% are in the US and most of them in PNW and lower Alaska. Couple of Germany. If I knew it was ok to upload it I would but I'd rather not get fussed at or upset the creator of the file. If you need to know about a specific one I could tell you if it's on the list, if that would help!

There's a full list of FSX default water runways downloadable from the link in my first reply -->

You can select any position on land or water by using the "map". Simply drag the aircraft symbol withthe cursor to any desired position. I do it now and then during a very long range flight (e.g. South Africa - Australia by Lockheed L 749). Under IFR you need to request clearance again from that position.

Hi,
it is quite easy using adex to create a seaplane base, I have three around the UK.

I agree all you have to do is input the latitude and longitude give it a name and there you go you might not even have to define a runway but you probably should define at least two runways, as I am not sure if you will see it as a valid airport in the database and be able to select it. I have never tried it so I am not sure if you can do this or not.

Okay, I've read all the posts with interest and even gone so far as to download and install ADEX but it won't run, clicking on the desktop icon just takes me to windows explorer! Any idea

If you create the seaplane base in ADEX, complete with a water runway it will compile it and add it to your addon scenery, it is then a properly registered airfield in FSX and appears on the map tool and can be used in the flight planner.

In order to use ADEX you will need the SDK found only on FSX Gold Edition Disk ONE you have to have the BGL compiler found in the SDK.
I know this is a bummer but there is no way to change it.
Once you get the SDK installed you run ADEX and than you have to define where it can find the BGL compiler at
Check out this link it will tell you how to install both the SDK and ADEX
