First, check your button assignments in game. Make sure F2 is the button assigned to reverse thrust. Make sure it's checked to "repeat". If you are running FSUIPC or another program for control input assignments, they might be overriding the FSX default controls.
Second, can you enlighten us on which aircraft you are having trouble with?

This is something that had me saying some bad words until I figured it out - Check to see if your
F Lock (function key lock) key has been pressed.

Some keyboards have a light to indicate that it was pushed.
But most don't nowadays.

Hi pegger & oldairmail, thanks for your replies, I tried what you suggested but still no luck, when holding down the f2 key reverse thrust works for about 2/3 seconds and then stops. I have this problem with all aircraft, both fsx default aircraft & simviation addons.

I have another thought on this issue.
Do you use a throttle quadrant/lever? If so, try decreasing the sensitivity on the controller. If you try applying the reverse with F2, and the system detects any tiny deviation in the throttle lever, the throttle will pull out of reverse and back to where your throttle lever is stationed (idle or otherwise). also a good idea to put a small null zone in the throttle so that when you pull back to idle you will have less tendency of the throttle to jitter, and these jitters will cause the reverse action engaged by keyboard to be undone.

Hi Pegger, I did as you suggested and reduced the sensitivity on the controls, reverse thrust now works perfect, many thanks for your help

Where did you get this keyboard from I see no such key on any of my keyboards. But I have what is called a QWERTY keyboard
It is called this because the first row of letters on it are QWERTY this keyboard is considered a standard keyboard. Now I am aware that there are other variations out there but by now the QWERTY is pretty much the standard keyboard on most if not all computers. This keyboard is even on most Phones that have a keyboard.

Also there are a lot of airplanes that don't have thrust reversers, like most piston engine planes and general aviation aircraft.

Sorry Gary, I just now saw your post.
Paul's correct about where I got the picture.
I'm surprised that your keyboard doesn't have one
