Fatal Error

Hi Everyone,
This problem has probably been answered a hundred times on here, but i am struggling to fix it.

I keep getting the fatal error message when flying on FSX. It is getting very frustrating as i bought this PC so solely play FSX.

I have searched for this problem and have found that the fix is to add an UIAutomation file to the FSX directory but it doesnt seem to have fixed the problem.

Can anyone suggest anything else that i can try. I am running windows 8.1.

i have team viewer and if anyone is willing to dial in to my PC to help my i would be more than ggreatful as when it comes to file names and directories and the technical stuff on PC's i am useful

I´m Bruno and i bought a Toshiba QOSMIO just for flying FSX.
In order not to have any problems with Windows 8.1, i asked the seller from the beginning to install Windows 7 Professional and never had problems after that.
I know that lot of Pilots have the problem with windows 8.1.

Perhapes somebody else has a better solution for your problem but i did it this way and it was the best.

Hi Mark. I purchased a custom built pc just for FSX with Windows 7 PRO and still get the Fatal Error once in awhile. Most times when I am right in the middle of a flight and need to change views. I have been unable to fix also. Know this doesn't help but wanted you to know that your not alone. Dave

If you're absolutely sure that you installed a good copy of UIAutomation, and did it in the right place, I can recommend only one other solution.



fsx .net framework crash

Don't bother reading it all, it didn't help me at the time either.

The point of that link is to establish the fact that FSX NEEDS the .net framework



I did, however, learn enough to come up with a solution. Hopefully, the problem I had is the same one that you have.

I'll leave out the cause of the problem & just go to the solution.


The crashes that I had were traced back to the corruption of .net framework.

I tried so many things, on and off over a relatively long time, that I'm not absolutely sure just what did work in the end. I tried many things by themselves, and in conjunction with other solutions.



My last attempt was to download and install .net framework 4.0 again. (trying to uninstall and then reinstall didn't work)

I restarted the computer.

Next I downloaded and installed .net framework 4.5.

I restarted the computer.

At that point everything was working again.

Hopefully, that'll work for you.

Do this first. No harm will be done and it's very easy.



Given the chance, FSX will be installed in on your C: drive in the folder called Program Files (x86).

Because certain restrictions are applied to some files and folders in Program Files (x86) those files may become locked.

Because of this many people will swear up & down that FSX should NEVER EVER be installed there.

What can happen is that when FSX needs to save something, anything, it'll crash because it can't write to that location.

Not only that, but you WILL NOT get any warning.

(There will be a record in the Event Viewer, but nobody ever looks there.)



Enter a freeware program called SimAccess that can fix that.

And all that you have to do is to run the program.

As stated this program will fix the access problems with both windows 7 and Windows 8 or 8.1
But as stated here the best thing is not to install on the C drive if you can avoid it. If all you have is the one drive than create a folder anywhere other than in PROGRAM FILES or in a 64bit system PROGRAM FILES(86)
As you can see by my signature I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit and have never had this kind of problem. But I have a total of 3 hard drives.
