Installng FS2004 Aircraft to FSX

Postby Buzz887 » Sun Apr 05, 2015 8:22 pm

Hi,

It has been quite some time since I last used FSX. I would love to use the aircraft I downloaded for FS2004, however I am at a loss as to why they will not work in FSX.

I have followed video instructions on youtube, however I just cant get the aircraft to show at all.

Can anyone direct me to how I go about this?

Many thanks

Hello Buzz....

Most of my favourite aircraft in my FSX are FS 2002/FS2004 types, and they mostly appear, and perform OK!

Just remember the installation procedure in FSX is the same as FS 2004, except that now the aircraft are directed to the; "SimObjects" folder, and installed under "Airplanes", "Rotorcraft", etc, etc...

If you do all that, in the same sequence as you did for FS 2004, after reading the"Readme" file in included with the download, everything should be OK!

The; "previews" in the list may look a bit odd, but the proper models appear OK in the Sim!

Have fun with your FS 2004 downloads!

The one other difference is that there is one extra file in a FSX aircraft and that is a jpg of the aircraft put in a file called thumb. This is what you see when you go to select a aircraft .
So if you want to move say the Cessna 150 all you have to do is to copy it over to the correct folder in FSX which is as Paul stated is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FSX\Simobjects\Aircraft
Now this is the default location for FSX
But just make sure to put it in the Simobjects Aircraft folder or FSX will not see it.
Now mind you you still may have other problems with textures not showing up correctly. This is a trial and error process. Some work some do not.
I forgot to mention that this only apply to freeware aircraft. Most Payware aircraft for FS2004 will not work correctly in FSX you will have to contact each designer to find out if it will or not. <<s

If you give us some example(s) we can help further. Often it's something like the panel or sound being aliased to one of the default FS2004 aircraft

For example a jetliner may have a sound.cfg file (open with notepad) aliased to the FS2004 default B737-400

You will see this

[fltsim]
alias=b737_400\sound

Change it to this

[fltsim]
alias=B737_800\sound

Similar with the panel

You can also look inthe aircraft.cfg file to see how the author has listed it -- ui_manufacturer= Boeing = the a/c will appear under 'Boeing'

Note also that if the aircraft wasn't built with a VC you won't be able to include a VC unless it's a native FSX model

You can see if it's a FS2004 or FSX model by reading the .mdl file inside the model folder (again open with notepad)

FS2004 model will read this on the top line MDL8MDLH
FSX native model will read this MDLXMDLH

Hi All,

Many thanks for your replies.

The aircraft I wish to fly again are David Maltby's BAC 1-11 etc.

I have copied the files to SimObjects
I have changed the panel to alias Douglas_dc3
I have changed the sound to alias Douglas_dc3
I have copied a jpg into the main folder.

Nothing seems to work?

Can you assist me again?

Regards

That has been adapted for FSX - and/or does work out of the box for FSX

Make sure you have installed it correctly:

I have copied the files to SimObjects

You should have to only copy the aircraft's un-zipped folder into the "SimObjects\airplane" folder.

I have changed the panel to alias Douglas_dc3
I have changed the sound to alias Douglas_dc3

You probably did not need to do that. With those files installed in the BAC 1-11, you will have a jet with a DC-3 cockpit and sounds like it's got two big radial engines.

I have copied a jpg into the main folder.

The .jpg needs to be renamed "thumbnail", and needs to be placed into the "texture" folder of the aircraft folder. Otherwise you will get a generic "airplane" in the selection panel.
