Odd resolution flashes

Postby Dr._Who » Sat Mar 28, 2015 2:51 am

So this is my problem.

I formated my computer after a long time of problems. Everything works fine, but something is wrong with FSX.

When I enter fullscreen, it flashes like if changing resolution, even though it is set to my native resolution. This problem only occurs in FSX. It might not seem like a problem, but there are small ones. For instance, I fly a lot of the A2A GA aircrafts (C172 and PA28). And the popup windows sometimes make the whole screen flash black when I open them if I'm in fullscreen mode. When in window mode, this problems is not there. Right now I'm using borderless FSX mod to run FSX, but using window mode results in a tiny, tiny FPS loss. And as you all know, when talking about FSX, every little FPS counts :p

Does anyone know what the problem might be? I did not have this problem before I formated, and I have tried reinstalling FSX. I have been through all the nvidia settings etc. I have no idea right now what is wrong...

Just as an aside, I always run my Flight Sims in; "Windowed Mode", native resolution, to give me access to any additional programs in my Task Bar, which then also display in Windowed Mode.
So everything always runs in the same set-up mode as regards resolution and display.
Some add-on programs insist on the Sim running in; "Windowed Mode".

Windowed Mode might not be very; "realistic", but at least it ensures that everything on the screen is displayed in the same mode!

Are you using DX10?

BTW - I, too, always used Window mode with FSX.

You might consider switching to Prepar3d. I have three monitors, and filling any one, two, or all three screens is as simple as pressing ALT ENTER.

I'm amazed that I see so little of this. It works exceptionally well.

I have tried both DX10 with Shader Fixer and without, and also not running DX10. Same problem.

I'd love to switch to P3D. How ever, like I said, I mainly fly A2As C172 and PA28. They are 45 euros each, and I would have to purchase them again for P3D. Then add the $60 for P3D it self. That adds up to almost $200...

I understand the problem, sorry.

I don't recall the problem that I experienced with DX10, but it occurred often enough that I stopped using it.

Others, on the other hand, had better results.

Do you have an Nvidia card?

Most of the posts that I see about scenery flashing have to do with Nvidia driver problems.

Many Prepar3d users had to switch back to an older driver to resolve the problem.

On top of that, the fact that everything worked well before you reformatted the computer, makes me think that either you, or the Windows installer, updated the video drivers.

Hope that'll help.
