hi there, during the flight the tower always asks you to change the frequency to others channels, in longer flights i always wanna watch tv or do different things, but i cant, cause if i dont reply they delete my IFR, so i ask u, when they say me to contact other radios channels, can i only tune and have no contacts?
thx from a civil jets aspirant pilot <<v :hand:

After your first handoff, after entering cruise, acknowledge the frequency change to your controller but do not tune the new one. You can then fly your course with no worries and go about your housework, cook some lunch, watch TV, head to a drive-thru for some lunch and all will be fine.

When you open the radio window after a couple of hours, you will have the option to tune the controller local to your actual position and then report into them. They will take a minute or two while the sim catches up to you. They will give oyu a handful of commands that you should not obey, only after the tell you to turn and resume own navigation should you respond to them, but do not change your course. If you do this about 200miles from destination then by the time they start giving you your descent commnads, you will be comfortably caught up well in advance and ready to handle anything that crops up.

This is how I do my flights and it works everytime. The only time it will break is if you have a flight path with a very tight turn that causes you to stray more than 3miles from the path. You'll never get them to catch up with you when you retune and they will only ever direct you back to that turn waypoint. Aside from that, you should make this work.

Good luck,

Rob.
