Aircraft.cfg

Hi. Not new to forums. Somehow got locked out using old user name ( granada77 ) had to reregister under new name and e-mail address. Have a question about aircraft.cfg. Downloaded several 747-400 cargo aircraft Southern Air, National and Kalita (sp) and found that they all jump when changing views. They jump so bad that the nose gear will fail during taxi and the mains will not retract after takeoff. I have another 747-400F Martinair Safari connection and it works just fine. My question is this, can I replace the aircraft.cfg file from the jumping aircraft with the one from the Martinair aircraft. I would not be replacing the title sections of any aircraft.cfg.

When I make any changes I keep the original file then try the new one. If it works fine, if not put the original back in.

Keep smiling
Tug :)

Probably no problem. As advised keep a back and all should be ok

From my experience, it is often due to a miss-match between the aircraft's wheels on the ground, and some new add-on scenery mesh installation.

Does it only affect one particular newly installed airfield location..or everywhere?

Jumping of aircraft can be caused by bad contact points or a problem with scenery or a weight and balance problem. But the later is a rare occasion. If the jumping happens everywhere you go than you have a contact problem. If not than you have a scenery issue.
I would not advise copying Aircraft CFG files as there could be some issues with weight and balance or contact points. Unless the planes are the exact same type you are going to have issues.
But like stated make a back up before you do anything. A ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure.

Thanks. Did make a backup, learned from mistakes, put in the Martinair landing gear contact points but that didnt help. Aircraft jump at all airports. Not sure about aircraft being the same. They are all 747-400 but are different types. Martinair is 747-421BCF works fine. The aircraft cfg file was redone to fix overgross weight problem with full fuel load. Kalitta is 400ERF, National is 747-428, World is 747-400BCF AND Southern Air is 747-400BCF. Does this make a difference?

What aircraft exactly are you talking about?

I just tried this one http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... &x=13&y=11

No jumping or any problem I could see. I switched views, landed and taxied around no problem

If this aircraft jumps at any airport than you definitely have a contact problem
The points below are for the gear no need to mess with any others
Point.0 id the nose wheel
Point.1 is the left main
Point.2 is the right main

I would look at contact .2 I think these should math contact 1 except for the Brake map if you notice towards the end they are different

POINT.0 = 1, 76.243, 0.000, -16.500, 1881.102, 0, 1.6, 70, 0.8, 1.5, 0.4, 7, 9, 0, 240, 280
POINT.1 = 1, -14.800, -20.291, -17.800, 2574.803, 1, 2, 0, 1.0, 1.7, 0.2, 10.9, 11.9, 2, 240, 280
POINT.2 = 1, -14.800, 20.291, -17.800, 2574.803, 2, 2, 0, 1.0, 1.7, 0.2, 8.1, 13.1, 3, 240, 280

/1 LONGITUDINAL POSITION (FEET)
//2 LATERAL POSITION (FEET)
//3 VERTICAL POSITION (FEET)
//4 IMPACT DAMAGE THRESHOLD (FEET PER MINUTE)
//5 BRAKE MAP (0=NONE, 1=LEFT, 2=RIGHT)
//6 WHEEL RADIUS (FEET)
//7 STEER ANGLE (DEGREES)
//8 STATIC COMPRESSION (FEET) (0 IF RIGID)
//9 MAX/STATIC COMPRESSION RATIO
//10 DAMPING RATIO (0=UNDAMPED, 1=CRITICALLY DAMPED)
//11 EXTENSION TIME (SECONDS)
//12 RETRACTION TIME (SECONDS)
//13 SOUND TYPE
//14 AIRSPEED LIMIT FOR RETRACTION (KIAS)
//15 AIRSPEED THAT GEAR GETS DAMAGE AT (KIAS)

Hi,
Read this thread and got interested in the problem. I've seen a similar problem before and I, too, thought it was related to contact points. But the fact that not everyone was not having the problem was curious. I downloaded and installed the plane but have not tried it yet. Prior to flying I check the aircraft.cfg for possible problems. The one included is something of a mess but the aircraft may work fine. However, I did notice that there were lights referenced that I do not have. The ones referenced all have Opensky in the name. I did a search and came across references that they are included in many aircraft downloads. Does anyone have a link to a download of just the missing lights?

If you think you're having contact point problems it might be worth while to run the aircraft file through 'Air Wrench"

In FS9 you could use the Demo version to correct contact points. I don't know if there is a demo version for FSX or not.

It might be worth while if all else fails to look it up.
