Insufficient Take Off Speed

I downloaded IAR-90, a twin engine jet fighter however, when push down on the throttle for take off, it won't come up to take off speed. I can hardly reach 100 knots before running out of runway. Is there anything in the aircraft cfg whereby I can do some adjustments?

Hello,

I have tested this aircraft and I think there is a lack of power.

What you could do is to modify this section in the aircraft.cfg file (make a backup of it first)

[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain=0.002170
inlet_area=5.000
rated_N2_rpm=29920.000000
static_thrust=4000.700000 <<<---- Increase this value (not to much!!)
afterburner_available=0
reverser_available=1

I will check on my side and i'll tell you results of my investigations.
At this time I'm very busy with another aircraft

Cheers

Philippe

Try checking one of your other jets out and see what they are using in the same area as stated in this post. This should give you a idea as to where ti start.
If after adjusting this are you still have issues I would say it is time to trash the plane. It could be a design problem or a air file problem.
Air files are a little tricky to adjust. and in my opinion not worth the effort.

In FS9, I do this. Might work for FSX.

Aircraft cfg file:

[flight_tuning]
parasite_drag_scalar=1.0
Lower, like 0.6 etc = higher speed.

[jet_engine]
thrust_scalar=1.0
Higher, like 1.5 etc = higher speed.

You may not have to bother with the jet engine thrust, try the flight tuning thing 1st.

If there is no [flight tuning] section, look for it in another aircraft and copy it in. The standard, usual default is 1.0 for all parameters if no flight tuning section, and many aircraft have those default numbers to start with.

Do it like this:

[flight_tuning]
//parasite_drag_scalar=1.0
parasite_drag_scalar=0.6

Or whatever new # you want.

The // prevents FS from reading that line, so you don't have to back up the file, and you can always restore the original setting.

I've done this many times, it works most of the time very nicely, however, sometimes there is still little change.

Ya want power, ya got power. Try it, flight test it, and Happy Contrails.

Hi,

I have worked on this aircraft:
- Aircraft.cfg modified
- Air file rebuilt
- Added a more useful panel (VC is not functionnal, don't know what the author wanted to do?)
- And so on..

If you want it, post your email adress or another way to send you the modified aircraft, I'll sent you the full updated aircraft

Cheers
