Hi guys can you help? I am not a real newcomer to FSX and its been running great till now, but I can't figure a fix for this one!
I have FSX installed on a separate SSD from the Win7 64bit drive. I have rebuilt my Fsx.config file successfully and run my FSX software discs 1 & 2 selecting to repair. However when I attempt to start FSX now still the initial screen comes up and before I see the setup screen with the rotating airplane I get the 'Fatal warning' box telling me that FSX is not working and the program will close down.
Well I'm adrift with no sight of land so I have had to send this Mayday!

1st thought is - have you already successully run FSX with it installed in a separate disc? Is it for disc space reasons you are doing this?

Also -- I have never known any 'MS repair' to work in all my time using windows. Never. So I never would use that.

Running FS in another drive than where Windows is installed may well be common -- but I haven't experienced it. It would be interesting to see how it works and what needs to be done.

I am guessing that you previously had your FSX running successfully on your main "C" drive (which also contains your operating system).

You then decide to un-install FSX completely from your main "C" drive using the FSX disk's inbuilt un-installer/remove program?

Restart the computer....

...and then performed a complete Install of FSX onto your new SSD drive using the original set of FSX Jewel case Installation Disks?

A new installation...

...in that order?

Thanks for the replies. FSX has always been on the SSD in this build of my computer, and has been running fine for past 12 mths. The OS is on the other SSD which is my 'C' drive. I have yet another 7200Hdd for my video editing storage etc. This problem has just manifested itself and I'm not sure why. Just prior to this happening I lost intro music and my ATC voices but the aircraft engine noise etc was still evident.
I then ran the repair discs for the first time, and after that I encounted my present situation. Hope that helps?

I know the error you are getting is not listed here but it worked for me.
As for installing FSX on a drive other than the drive that your OS is on This is the recommended procedure. Especially if your OS is Windows 7 or Windows 8
Even if you are using Windows XP FSX works best if not installed on the same drive as your OS.
I have FSX on my H drive a external 1 TB 3.2 USB port
and FS9 on my D drive a internal 1TB drive running Windows 8.1 64 bit with ABSOLUTELY no problems at all

That's it, time to bail out. I am not willing to re-install FSX and all the huge amount of addon files I have. Been there done that, got all the tea shirts. I have been considering Prepar3D and that is the only reason I would go through a re-install. Thanks for your help and suggestions but its time to move on!

SUCESS! When I ran the repair selection, the software only called for disk 1 and then 2 before saying it was Finished. I never thought to put the third 'Acceleration' disk in the drive. So when I was about to dump FSX, I thought as a last attempt I would put the ,'Acceleration' disk in and see if it had a repair selection. Well it did, and that's what fixed my problem. What caused this is still beyond me!!

I think that's pretty clear. You fixed FSX Acceleration with FSX standard, which obviously doesn't work. The "repaired" FSX was a mix of FSX standard and Acceleration, which can not run.

May I give here another tip. It's always good to have a copy of the FSX directory somewhere on a backup drive. Usually such errors can be fixed just copying the backup onto the installed FSX. If you have textures packages installed leave out this directory. It saves you a lot of copy time anyway. Usually the .exe and .dll need to be repaired.
The configuration files are stored another place and are not affected. These need to be backed up separately.

About changing the drive, this is never a problem. I canged the drive often and adjusted the installdrive of FSX in the registry with regedit. It's a good thing to have FSX on it's own drive apart from the OS.
