I wondered why my ability to steer most, really all nosewheel aircraft on takeoff to keep them on centre was so poor. Thought its just my age, well I decided I would investigate anyway. I found even after calibrating my Saitek X52 Pro joystick that even the smallest rudder input caused full rudder deflection either way. I tried 'Auto rudder ON' and OFF, still no progressive rudder control. The nose wheel steering is the same. Now like a good Flt Simmer I copied my FSX Config file when I loaded FSX to always have something to refer back to.
So I looked at [CONTROLS] and checked controls where still 'default standard' & 'current standard' and that KBDAIL, KBDELEV & KBDRUD all =64. Now you may think I know what I am doing, but I don't, it was just a guess to look at that. Finally my fancy Flight 1 King Air B200 aircraft is the same and on the ground the rudder quivers constantly. Can anyone please HELP with this issue it would be very much appreciated.

I have an X45 and had the same problem, the standard response curve was terrible being much too sensitive around the central positions. I tried the Saitek profiling software which should have fixed it but it didn't, it crashed my PC instead. As far as I'm aware the KBDAIL, KBDELEV and KBDRUD entries in the config only effect the keyboard inputs.

The solution for me was this:
Open up your config and create a new line by entering the following in the [CONTROLS] section

stick_sensitivity_mode=0

It should now look like this:

[CONTROLS]
stick_sensitivity_mode=0
Controls_Default=Standard
Controls_Current=Standard
KBDAIL=64
KBDELEV=64
KBDRUD=64

Save.

This will make the stick respond in a linear fashion. You will also need to further adjust your sensitivities using the in game adjustments.

This works for both FSX and P3D.

I believe if you install the FSUIPC software you will then get even better programming control over the joystick (and everything else). I haven't gone down that path yet so I don't know very much about that solution. No doubt others can give advice on that topic.

Thanks GK for your suggestion. It didn't work for me and appeared to make no difference to the control of the rudder / steering. I have not installed the Saitek SST software, just for your info. I must say I had not noticed this problem before until I looked into it and I seem to remember that the nose wheel steering used to be OK I thought. However I will probably have to invest in FSUIPC, I will just wait and see what other replies I get, thanks again.

Question - Have you just done a reinstall after having done a complete uninstall?

No I haven't and frankly I don't intend to. I have a massive amount of software on the FSX dedicated SSD and reloading it would be a nightmare. If I had to delete I would probably install Prepar3D. I see you have it (& loving it). Do your find it compatible enough with your addon software? I also believe it supports multi thread CPU's like my i7-3770K.

I'm very surprised it didn't work.........with that line added and further adjustment in game the joystick will have a linear response...........ah well.

The reason that I was asking is that both FSX & Prepar3d seem to automatically add random commands to any USB device that you plug in to your computer.

Sometimes those commands conflict, interfere, or override the flight sim.



I know. I've just reinstalled P3d.

The best thing to do in such a situation is to delete all assignments on EACH device that you have. Then you can manually add in the ones that you want.

This last time the installer assigned the yoke/rudder to elevators down, and the throttle to hard left rudder.



As to moving programs from FSX over to P3d - A lot of FSX software can be installed on P3d. There are three scenarios here;

1) Create a folder on your desktop (or elsewhere). Aim the installer at that. Then drag and drop the files to the appropriate areas in the P3d folder.

2) Get a cheap program called MigrationTool. That link gives a overly complex explanation of how it works. skip that if you want. The short version in in the post below that one.

NOTE - That will work for most older FSX software. Some companies will not let you install to Prepar3d EVEN it you use the MigrationTool.

Luckily, many companies will even add the option of FSX or P3d to the installer program. Guess who's software I buy.

3) Drag & Drop. This can be VERY easy, or it could crash your flight sim.

For instance, P3d doesn't come with a Cessna 172. But if you drag the C172 folder from FSX to P3d it works without a problem (you do have to restart P3d though, otherwise you'll only get white C-172s').

Some, such as those made for FS9 OR FSX, either don't work, or crash P3d.

These FS9/FSX programs may also crash P3d even when installed by the other means above. Often The installer will put many files in differing locations. If you don't know what goes where - CRASH!

I've had no problems, so far, with any FSX Acceleration software being installed onto P3d.

In all, I think that I've only been unable to installe two or three FSX planes into P3d.

That is one major reply 'OldAirmail' it will take me a little time to digest and understand that amount of info. I was completely unaware of how FSX users could approach Prepar3D as far as installing their older FSX software. Thanks so much for taking the time to type such an informative reply.

Eagle, I have the X45 and experienced the same problems early on when using win 8. I tried everything including the latest Saitek driver, but to no avail. I just couldn't steer, sometimes the blasted 'plane would even fly like it was assymetric. I installed P3D and it was the same. Everything was in a right turn mode. Then, due to some other problem, I had to wipe the HD and re-install win 8 from HP. Well, after a short Hiatus from everything, updating what I really needed. Especially my graphics driver direct from the MFG. I finally got FSX to work in Win 7 mode. Using the drivers already installed, everything works now. Don't ask me what was wrong or what was fixed, but when I tried my Howard or other tail draggers I couldn't steer, neither could I steer the Grumman tracker. Then I remembered, no tail wheel steering on those blighters, just castor action, requiring more than just a tweek on the throttle to make it work, plus sequential braking. I'm really hoping that I needed to do all that re-installing for a genuine reason.

Hi 'Logjam' great little plane the Tracker. Don't forget to re-read the Readme file, you have to make a change to the aircraft Config file to activate nose wheel steering. It explains it fully in the ReadMe file, cheers.

I have a Saitex X52 PRO and had the same problem. What I did to solve it was to recalabrate my joystick and this fixed my problem. Another thought to is to roll back the driver to the last as this may have caused the problem if you have recently updated your driver. That too has been problematic for me at times.

One other place you might want to check is the FSX.CFG file I am not sure if there is anything in this file about the issue you are having and I am at work so I can not look at it and tell you which line you need to check
Depending upon what version of windows you are using the FSX.CFG file is located in different places
The easiest way to find it is to use the search option make sure you have selected show hidden files before you search.

SUCCESS! Thanks to you 'Tug002'. Like you I had re-calibrated my X52 Pro countless times with no change. I reluctantly I have to admit I had not updated my driver software for the X52 Pro, so I took your suggestion and updated it. Why I should have to seemed hard to understand. However success followed I now has progressive control over rudder and nosewheel steering, cheers.
