Flight Simulator Has Stopped Responding and Fatal Error

Hello! I have been experiencing a problem where FSX stops responding or in other cases a 'Fatal Error Occurred'. It often happens in Missions when I try to change my Aircraft, when the mission is loading or in the middle of a mission. However, the main problem is when I try to load a free flight it NEVER works. As soon as I click start flight FSX stops responding, which is very frustrating when you are limited to only the missions that don't even work properly. I have tried everything I can thing of. I have uninstalled and installed FSX properly many times and the same problem keeps on happening straight away. It has got to the point of unbearable, I have a great passion for Aeroplanes and FSX is a great simulator but I really want this problem sorted. Any help would be much appreciated :)

Has FSX ever worked without crashing, or is the problem something that got worse over time?

What are your system specs and OS?

Are you using Windows 7 or 8?

The default instillation path is C:\Program Files (x86).

Although I've never had problems with FSX running in that location, many people are strongly opposed to installing it to that location because of the way that Win 76/8 tries to protect programs in that location.

Another problem crops up when you delete FSX, and then try to reinstall FSX. That's because Windows uninstall didn't remove all of the FSX files from your computer.

My guess is that Windows acts like there are unauthorized changes being made to certain files. It then "locks" files to prevent ant more changes.

This can be corrected manually, but I'd suggest downloading a free program called SimAccess to unlock the FSX (or even Prepar3d) files & folders.

This may, or may not, be your problem. But it's extremely easy & free.

As a side benefit it makes a backup of the changed files. That backup save my butt one time.

It's possible that you are running on the low end with a 1.90Ghz processor. Straight FSX may work okay with reduced settings (Scenery, AI traffic....), but is below minimums for FSX Acceleration.

(Forgot to mention...) Reset all your variables (scenery, AI traffic, and so on, to minimum settings, and see if that helps.

Another possibility is add-ons. Did you install any scenery right before things went south? On my system, that occasionally caused problems. Some aircraft can also cause problems, too. On my system, *some* helicopters cause a freeze-up.

Hi I have tried both of what you two said but it still doesn't work. I tried running it on Compatibility settings which worked for about 30 minutes but then after stopped working, I tried all the other compatibility modes and it doesn't work. Even worse now missions as well crashes as soon as I press start mission for every mission, so FSX is now unusable. Any more help please I would be very grateful for :)

I haven't been a member of this group for very long but I have found that the established members give very good advice. On the other hand I have been a PC user since the original TRS 80 was on the market. It does appear to me that for some reason your installation of FSX has been corrupted and it needs to be reinstalled after being totally wiped from your computer. I am also thinking that your system is a bit under powered to run FSX with all the features activated. You might want to consider getting a copy of FS 2004 for use on your laptop. Read the minimum suggested requirements for running FSX before reinstalling it on your computer.

Try to put the UiAutomationCore.dll into your main FSX folder.
Be sure you get the right version 6.0.5840.16386
If it dosn't work, just delete the .dll

Anytime you uninstall FSX you should run the FSX reset tool see link below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080
As for where to install FSX on Windows 7 or 8 according to every thing I have read the best place to install FSX is on a Hard Drive that does not have your operating system on it. But since everyone does not have a second hard drive it is advised to put it anyplace other than PROGRAM FILES most people create a folder called FSX. But it does not make a difference what you call the folder just DO NOT PUT IT IN PROGRAM FILES.

I wouldn't just move it. Remove it and reinstall in another location you create.

Definitely!
Any program which is "installed" in the first place, and is no longer required, need "un-installing", reset computer, and "reinstalling" in the new desired location.
Moving "installed" programs from one place to another generally results in a complete disaster....
"Windows" needs to know exactly where it is in the Directory!

"Moving things" can be very bad for you!.... ;) ...!

Incidentally, I originally installed my FSX in the default "Program Files" location, and never had any problems, being that I have always had full "administrator rights" in Windows 7 and 8.
But recently, I completely reinstalled FSX onto another location of its own on my "C" Drive to ensure no possible problems...works a treat!

Paul.... :D ...!
