FSX missions Shuttle launch

I have tried the shuttle launch patrol mission at least a dozen times. The last three or four times I have successfully intercepted the stray plane but the mission failed because it did not land like it was supposed to. I even resorted to ramming it but that of course resulted in a failed mission. Is this a no win scenario or is there a secret I haven't discovered about forcing the private plane to land?

If memory serves, I think you have to not only intercept the plane, but you must also land before it will land.
