Instrument problems on fsx downloads

I am fairly new to flight simulator, and every time I have downloaded a new aircraft, everything has worked perfectly except for the instrument panel/primary flight display, which is blank. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Does "blank" mean that you 1) see no instruments or 2) don't you see a panel at all? If you see no instruments, it looks like (in my opinion) that you miss the necessary gauges. If you see no panel at all (2D or VC?), it looks like the download wasn't complete. Do you see bmp's in the panel-map? And a panel.cfg?

It is a 777, and the cockpit looks complete, but the display screens are black. It looks like they are just turned off.

One quick way to find out is to use a program called FSPANELSTUDIO it is well worth every cent it cost.
This programs allows you to see the panel of any aircraft in your fleet and to edit it with ease. Since you are actually seeing the panel as you would if you were in FSX
This program works with FS9 as well
Here is the link http://www.fspanelstudio.com/
The other way to find out is to look at the panel cfg file and see if it mentions the gauges you seem to be missing.
You have to remember that the bitmap the panel uses could show gauges not present in your panel config this would leave a empty spot in that hole.
You have to count the holes for gauges than count the actual gauges being used. it is easy to miss one using this method.

This happens quite often with freeware downloads some people just do not know what they are doing when designing a panel.

Hi

Please tell us what file you are using?

99.99% of these type of problems are just a click or 2 away from fixing.

Did you get a 'gauges' folder in the aircraft pack? If so put all the contents of that in the main 'Gauges' folder in FSX (& restart FSX & reselect your aircraft).

But otherwise just let us know the file - filename or page where we can find it and me or someone will take a look. It will be an easy fix - guaranteed.

Thanks and welcome to the world of FS!! :)

I'm a newbee too and I also discovered that in many cases the contents of the gauges folder are zipped up and need to be unzipped before placing in the main FSX folder.

I am working with b772aalnc_fsx from this website.
I have tried (to the best of my ability) all of your suggestions, and nothing has worked so far. Thanks for all the help though.

Hi Benjo,

Is it the VC that your having trouble with or/and the 2d panel?

I've installed the same aircraft and I'm not getting any instruments in the VC, 2d panel
is fine.

Steve

@ Pete,

A lot of the VC textures are bmp files that are 'hidden' , even changing status I cannot view them.

The VC I get is a very pale 'washed' out grey background to all the VC and no instruments at all and no external
textures, not even on the preview window in the free flight settings window.

@Benjo,

there are some guides on the internet for setting up the VC in the Posky 777's

regards

Steve
