What are the deciding factors on what RAM to get if 1600mhz CL7, 1866mhz CL8,2133mhz CL9 and 2400mhz CL10 basically perform the same? Is there an aspect that is more for FSX that I should focus on? What are your guys results?

And how much RAM is optimal for a very high-quality FSX rig?

Also what about the response times of the RAM. I will be using a 4790k.

Questions like this might get many different answers because some people like a particular manufacturer.
The only way I know how to answer this is as follows.
Regardless of who makes the ram as a rule of thumb the faster the better. Double channel over single channel is also preferred but you have to be careful with this one as some systems will only allow double channel RAM in a certain slot so you have to make sure you know what your mother board requires. When I bought my mother board the manual provide me with recommended venders and speeds,
The bottom line is you have to know what kind of ram your motherboard will support.
There is DDR DDR2 and DDR3 the last thing you want to do is to purchase some ram and not be able to install it
You can not put a ddr2 ram card into a slot that requires either ddr or ddr3 it will not fit.
And speed is important as each mother board will only support certain speeds. So if your mother board only supports 1800 mhz ram speeds you can not install 2400 mhz ram it will not work.

Lower latency better than speed. 8 Gig is enough for FSX with 64bit OS,as FSX is only 32bit and can only use 4 gig, but if you have a 64bit OS, than the OS has some more headroom for other programs.

I kept running out of memory with 8 gigs which is why I went to 12 gigs . Now I run FSX full out with no problems.
As for the other like I said as a rule of thumb the faster the better and latency is a factor to consider I was just trying to keep it simple.
