FSX start up encounters a fatal error

Postby Modlerbob » Mon Jun 09, 2014 8:54 am

FSX has been working for over a week since I loaded it from a new set of discs, until last night. A sound file that controlled the AI tower communication had stopped working so I inserted disc 1 and initiated a repair sequence. After a few minutes a screen appeared stating the repair was complete and a reboot was necessary. After the reboot I tried to start FSX. All the scenery seemed to load OK and then just short of the main screen a box appeared stating a fatal error had occurred. After a couple more failed attempts I decided to uninstall FSX and do a full reinstall. This time however it never asked me to enter the key code and at the end of the install process the installer froze. I tried running FSX.exe and ended up with the same fatal error so I am now at a loss as to what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am running Windows 7 Pro on a HP Compac 8200 with an intel quad core processor.

Bob! A few questions.
WHY are you messing around with FSX in that way, just because of one sound file :? Why didn't you ask in here? And why didn't you ask yourself, if any of your latest addons installation gave you the problem?
A FSX repair, and you are bound for trouble!

A clean FSX install needs ANY previous folders deleted, hidden or not hidden. It needs a registry cleaner, and then maybe, just maybe, you will succeed on a new one!

OK, by accident I discovered that the FSX Acceleration program needed to be uninstalled separately. After that FSX completed the installation and asked for the product key. After typing in the product key it tried to validate the product unsuccessfully stating the web page was unavailable. The FSX Acceleration program won't reload until FSX is validated. I then called the 800 number listed and successfully validated the installation. After which I reinstalled FSX acceleration successfully.

But the original problem remains. When using the AI ATC the text flashes across the screen as before but there is no speech. I can live with that. Everything else is working fine.

If you are not hearing any sounds from ATC you could have your sounds turned down.
As for the other problem when ever you uninstall FSX you must run a reset tool or you will have issues.
Look under Options on them main menu then select sounds there are several different sliders here. Make sure they are at least half way and of course that your speakers are on. Also make sure you have selected a voice otherwise no sound.

Don't forget that if you accidentally press the "Q" key for any reason, whilst the Flight Sim is running, it mutes all the sound!

I'm sorry but you must really think I'm a dufus. Those were all of the first things I checked. I selected several different pilot voices from the menu and made sure all of the various sound types were turned on. I just have the engine sounds set below 50%. I did notice that when using the ATC feature when the traffic controller voice was supposed to be broadcasting all off the other sounds dimmed a bit.

Sorry about that no insult was intended. People sometimes get in a hurry and forget the simple things.
As for the sound issues you seem to be having. Does this happen with any aircraft or just one aircraft only.
If it is one aircraft only than there is something not set right with that aircraft. If this happens on all aircraft I would check out your sound settings on your system. Some systems have HD audio and if this is not set up right it can cause issues.

Actually, after downloading a new airplane yesterday, the British Aerospace Jetstream, I noticed the copilot was talking after raising the landing gear and setting the flaps. So I checked the ATC and the sound was working there. I checked other planes and so far the voice responses are working again. I had also previously turned off and then turned on all of the sound options. I don't know which action did it but the ATC voice option is now working fine.

It is things like this that can drive one to drink. I have finally got to the point that any time I add a aircraft I proceed to check every thing out to make sure nothing has changed. The downloads I usually avoid are ones that have a self installer unless I know the person up loading the file I trust them as far as you can toss a fully loaded 747-400. Al it takes is for someone that does not know what they are doing and the next thing you know FSX is not working correctly. I have FSX and FS9 completely backed up and anyone that does not do this is asking for trouble in my opinion <<s
I totally believe in the old proverb a once of prevention is worth a ton of cure
