Help for a Newbie, Error and Operation

Ok fellas,

Here is my dilemma. I originally purchased FSX (deluxe) version and added the Acceleration Pack, shortly thereafter the releases. Since then I have went through XP, Vista, W7 and now W8 to no luck as far as getting it to work and operate properly without crashing halfway into a flight. I even bought this new CPU a Cybertron Hellion, Nvida GT 640 (I think) and a Six Core processor with W8 to hopefully take care of that issue. Everything downloaded fine and was running ok until I got the infamous "Windows/FSX (I can't remember off hand) has stopped working." This happened since day 1 on every computer I've owned and its really annoying to be this far along. I am an avid gamer and slightly skilled on the computer which leads me into the next issue.

So I looked up a couple of fixes and was uninstalled the program when I noticed the files were still in my 86x folder. So I deleted them and now I get the "0x80004702 dll error" and it will not reinstall into my computer again. I just got off the phone with Microsoft (after about 3 hours) of them trying to fix it and I'm at my last resort with this... Normally I would just try to figure it out myself but obviously I did something wrong. The MS Account person told me that Disk 2 is corrupted but the problems only occurred after I deleted everything and I had just used that disk two days ago. So reaching out to you guys that are more familiar and praying on some help. I was hoping someone might lend me a helping hand. To at least get FSX back up and running.

Thank you very much FSX Peeps

Steve-O

Are you saying that you've installed FSX onto each of these OS (over a period of perhaps 10 years) and it has never flown more than half a flight?

Without doubt you have a corrupted disk, regardless of correctly installing, I'd assume this much by now if it was happening to me.

Options:
1) Without doing a re-install of your OS (win8 ?) I'd use CCleaner to Scan and Fix the Registry.
Then try installing FSX again.

2) Re-install of your OS nowadays is quite quick
(at least Win7 is quick. If you have been careful not to install software into your program files directory, never a good idea post XP, you don't have to re-install anything else. well, maybe some, but only when you need to use them)
Then try installing FSX again.

But honestly? after this much time, I'd look for a cheap copy of FSX someplace and give up on the version you currently have.
Remember to read threads here about installing Acceleration / Gold versions - as the SP1 and SP2 are not required with Acceleration, and you have to run FSX before updating to Acceleration.

That's the best advice I can offer; literally what I would do in your shoes - Good Luck !

Thanks for your suggestion,

Ok so I seemed to have fixed my problem and maybe of some use to all FSX pilots out there. If the dll. problem with the registry shows up like mine did and would not allow you to install FSX all I did after a lot of hours working was to do a system recovery (and having a girlfriend who's is technically savvy) which seems to have restored everything. Now, you have to do the system recovery prior to the date you installed FSX and it should allow you to re-register the disk(s). I have flown everything (including downloads) and it works great

........... however the only issue I am having is the flickering (taxiway/runway), lighting (effects) and afterburners (IRIS F-14/Accel F-18) not working entirely correctly (when DX10 is clicked on). After some research into the problem I have found that during the daytime (especially) the afterburners and the above mentioned didn't work properly, in the case of the afterburners they were only showing in certain forward views and not the rear of the aircraft and were significantly less bright or not even showing up. So after a little experimenting I have found that DirectX 10 is linked to the problem. When DX10 is off I can see the afterburners perfectly, the taxiway flickering stops at intersecting sections and looks great and the lights do not show up in the menu when switching aircraft. The only problem with this is the screen does some slight bouncing or stuttering in certain views and eventually FSX crashes and shows the "not operating properly." statement.

My only question is that I have uninstalled the game again in an attempt to locate the problem between SP1 and the 3rd Party/addon aircraft update. If any of you have thoughts or suggestions I am open to them.

What I did do or how I installed the game was this:

FSX
SP1
3rd Party/Addon Update
Acceleration

Go into the menu and set my FPS to Unlimited and click the DirectX 10 box (indicating I am using it).
Adjust my screen resolution to my monitor ant that's it.

Any help will be appreciated...

Thanks

fsx has issues with dx10
do a google search for "steve's dx10 fixer" (payware) or "steves dx10 shader tweaks" (free)
if you use payware scenery, get the payware fixer
the paware version will fix lighting issues with orbx vectored lights
