Loading FSX into an SSD

Postby Bubblehead » Wed Mar 05, 2014 11:55 pm

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC OS from WinXP 32 Bit to Win7 Home Edition 64 Bit. Win7 Upgrade Advisor indicated that my PC is compatible with Win7. I was thinking of reloading FSX into a separate drive by itself. I can get a 64Gig SSD for around sixty bucks. Will this improve performance of the FSX in addition to an upgraded GPU and increase in RAM?

Fsx on an SSD will only speed up the games load time.

if you system is really low end, you might see a fps increase
but better gpu and cpu is how you get better fps.

also, installing a sound card will take the sound load of the cpu and can result in a fps increase

I've got 3.0GHz processor and a Radeon HD 7770 GPU but my sound is built in motherboard. I'll check on the sound card.

Thanks.

I just built a new flight computer and I have set it up to do that. I have two 120G SSD with the operating system on one Windows 7-64 bit and FSX on the other. I have just ordered a new copy of FSX Gold as I had so much trouble the last time I switch computers with MS. I I am hoping to not have to go to to much trouble switching up but it is defiantly time.
Any trouble upgrading Saitek and Go-Flight hardware to Windows 7?

Asus P8Z77-VLX, Intel i7-3770, 16 GB Patriot Ram, Corsair H-60 water cooled heatsink, Thermaltake 750W power supply, ZOTAC GeForce GTX 260²

The graphics card is what I had on hand and I am looking for a pair of better cards when I can afford it.

I've had compatibility problem with my HD 7700 (PCIe 3.0) and my mobo (Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0) which is a 2.0 card. Althoug most swear that my GPU is backward compatible with my mobo my FSX kept crashing on me unless I palce my graphic, FPS and scenery settings to mid range and even that I get problems. I took it to Frys PC repair shop where I bought both cards and I was told that no matter what everyone else says, my GPU is incompatible with my mobo and that I should either replace my mobo with a 3.0 unit or replace my GPU with a 2.0 unit which at this time are are to find. But they were able to find a 2.0 GPU on their shelves which I should try. So I bought ($90.00) and loaded the MSI Nvidia GeForce GT 630 4GB DDR3. Now I am not saying that this is a solution nor can I explain why in PC terms this is happening but now I am playing with my FSX with FPS unlimited and all settings MAX with no problems. I suppose the same could be done with super 5GB DDR5 GPUs costing 5-6 hundred bucks.

Interesting about the compatibility of the video cards. I like to run to video cards because my set has multiple monitors One card is used with a Matrox Triple head and controls 3 22" monitors and the other runs 2 17" monitors for instruments. As for sound cards Again I use 2. One for FSX and one for VOX ATC.
